LG Washer Repair in Las Vegas: Error Codes and Common Fixes

Seeing OE, UE, LE or dE on your LG washer? Learn what the common codes mean, the safe checks to try at home, and when an LG washer needs a technician.

LG washers are widely used in Valley homes, condos and rentals, in both front-load and top-load designs. Most use a direct-drive motor, where the motor's rotor attaches straight to the drum shaft without a belt. LG washers also tend to report problems with clear error codes, which gives you a head start on figuring out what went wrong.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with LG. We repair LG washers and use manufacturer-specified parts by default.

Common LG washer error codes

Codes vary slightly by model, so confirm with your owner's manual. These are the ones that appear most often:

CodeUsual meaningWhere to start
OEWater is not drainingPump filter, drain hose, drain pump
UELoad is unbalancedRedistribute the load, check leveling
IEWater is not fillingSupply valves, inlet hoses and screens
dEDoor lock problemDoor closure, latch, lock assembly
LEMotor locked or overloadedOverload, rotor and stator, motor wiring
PEWater level sensor faultPressure sensor and hose
tEHeater or temperature sensor faultThermistor, heater (on models with one)

A code tells a technician where to look, not necessarily which part failed. For example, OE can be a sock in the filter or a failed pump.

OE: the washer will not drain

On front-load LG washers, the drain pump filter is behind a small panel at the bottom front, usually on the left. Unplug the washer, place towels and a shallow pan underneath, and release the water through the small drain tube before slowly unscrewing the filter. Remove debris, rinse it and reinstall it securely. Then check the drain hose behind the machine for kinks.

If the code returns after the path is clear, the pump may be failing. Listen during a drain cycle: a hum with no water movement suggests a jammed or broken impeller, and silence suggests a motor or wiring problem.

UE: unbalanced loads

UE is often a load issue rather than a fault. A single heavy item, such as a bath mat, comforter or pair of jeans, can make balancing impossible. Add or redistribute items and try again. Also check that the washer is level and all four feet are firm on the floor. On a stacked unit or a garage slab with a slope, leveling matters more.

If UE appears with normal, balanced loads, the cause may be worn shock absorbers, a failing motor sensor, or an issue with the drum support.

IE: no fill or slow fill

Make sure both water supply valves are fully open and the inlet hoses are not kinked. Valley water is hard, and the small screens inside the inlet valve where the hoses connect can collect scale and sediment. With the water shut off and the washer unplugged, disconnect the hoses and inspect the screens. If they are clear and the water pressure is normal, the inlet valve itself may have failed.

dE: door lock errors

Make sure nothing is caught in the door, such as a sleeve or the gasket itself. Close it firmly. If the lock fails to engage or release consistently, the lock assembly or its wiring may be the cause. Do not force a locked door, especially if there is water in the drum.

LE: motor locked

LE can appear when the washer is overloaded, when something is jammed between the drum and tub, or when there is a problem with the rotor, stator or motor sensor. Remove part of the load and try again. If the code persists with a small load, the motor assembly needs testing.

Noise and the tub bearing

A loud grinding or roaring during spin, getting louder over weeks, often means the tub bearings are failing. On many front-loaders the bearings are pressed into the outer tub, and replacing them is a major job. If water has leaked past the seal for a long time, the shaft and drum support may also be damaged. This is a case where repair-versus-replace deserves a careful discussion after diagnosis.

Odor, mold and gasket care

Front-load washers seal tightly, which helps efficiency but traps moisture. To limit mold and odor:

  • Wipe the door gasket and fold after the last load of the day.
  • Leave the door and detergent drawer slightly open between uses.
  • Use HE detergent in the recommended amount. More soap leaves residue.
  • Run the tub-clean cycle monthly.

Hard water adds mineral residue to this mix, so a washer cleaner made to dissolve scale is useful from time to time.

When to stop and call a technician

Book a repair if you see:

  • Codes that return after the basic checks
  • Water leaking from under the washer
  • Grinding, banging or a burning smell
  • A door that will not unlock after draining
  • No power at all with a working outlet

Repair or replace an LG washer?

Most LG washer repairs, including pumps, inlet valves, door locks, sensors, shocks and motor components, are worth doing on a washer in otherwise good shape. Tub bearing failures and cracked tubs on older machines are where replacement often makes more sense.

Our technician diagnoses the washer on-site and gives one price for parts and labor before any work begins. The repair is covered by a 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my LG washer show OE when the filter is clean?

Check the drain hose for kinks and the standpipe for clogs. If both are clear, the drain pump or its wiring may be at fault. A technician can test the pump and confirm before replacing it.

Can I reset an LG washer to clear an error code?

Unplugging the washer for a few minutes can clear a one-time glitch. If the code returns, it is reporting a real condition, and resetting it again will not fix the cause.

Is a loud spin cycle worth repairing?

It depends on the cause. A foreign object or worn shock absorber is a smaller repair. Worn tub bearings are a major job, and on an older washer replacement may be the better value. Diagnosis tells you which one you have.
