On many Maytag and Whirlpool-built top-loaders, the agitator has internal dogs or a coupling that wears, so the motor runs but the agitator slips. A worn drive or shifter can cause similar symptoms. Overloading speeds the wear. We remove the agitator and inspect the drive parts before quoting a fix.
Many Maytag dryers are marketed with large capacity and heavy-duty components, but the core design matches other Whirlpool-built dryers. They are tough, yet they still depend on clear venting. A long or crushed duct makes any dryer overheat, trip its thermal fuse and wear its heater early, no matter what the badge says.
A clogged filter assembly is the most common reason, followed by a drain pump that hums without moving water, a kinked drain hose or a blocked air gap at the sink. Rinse the filter first. If water still sits after a cycle, we check the pump and drain path and quote the repair.
Yes. Hollow or undersized cubes usually mean the ice maker is not getting enough water. A water valve scaled by hard tap water, a partly frozen fill tube or low household water pressure are the common causes. We check the supply, valve and fill tube before replacing any part of the ice maker.
Not always. Range errors are triggered by sensors, door locks and heating circuits that the board monitors, so a bad temperature sensor or lock can produce the same lockout as a failed board. We test the inputs the board reads before recommending a control replacement, which is one of the more expensive range parts.
No. TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company with no affiliation to Maytag. If your Maytag is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Maytag first, because work by an independent shop may not be covered by that warranty. Once it is out of warranty, or if the warranty route does not work for you, we are glad to take a look.
Servicing Maytag in the Las Vegas Valley
Maytag began as an Iowa washing-machine company and has been part of Whirlpool Corporation since 2006. The name still sells on durability, especially in laundry: Bravos and newer top-loaders with Pet Pro options, Maxima front-loaders, and large-capacity dryers. Its refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges and microwaves round out kitchens in family homes and rentals in the south and southwest valley.
Maytag appliance repair today means working on Whirlpool-engineered platforms dressed in Maytag features. That is good news for owners. The parts are common, the diagnostic modes are familiar, and most failures land on a known list of components that can be tested quickly and priced before anything is ordered. Older Maytag-designed machines still turn up too, and we can identify those from the model tag.
Heavy-duty marketing, familiar engineering
A Maytag washer may advertise extra power or a deep-fill option, but underneath, its lid lock, shifter, pump and control behave like other Whirlpool-built machines. That helps the diagnosis. We run the service mode, read stored codes, and compare what the control reports with meter readings at the part.
Where Maytag differs is how hard owners tend to push these machines. Big families, pet hair, work clothes and overloaded drums all show up as worn suspension, stressed drive parts and pumps jammed with debris. We look for the cause of the wear, not only the broken part.
Maytag appliances on our repair list
Laundry: top-loaders with blinking lid locks, worn drives and pumps blocked by socks or coins; Maxima front-loaders with torn door boots and bearing noise; electric and gas dryers that tumble cold or squeal.
Kitchen: French-door and side-by-side refrigerators with PowerCold, where ice makers, defrost parts and fans are the usual suspects; upright and chest freezers, many living in garages; PowerBlast and Dual Power filtration dishwashers; freestanding and slide-in ranges, stoves and wall ovens with weak igniters or failed elements; cooktops; and over-the-range microwaves.
Quick checks on a Maytag before booking
If a top-loader stops with water in it, check the drain hose for a kink behind the machine and listen for the pump humming. A hum with no water moving often means something is stuck in it. Do not run it repeatedly; that can burn out the pump.
A garage freezer or second refrigerator that struggles in July may simply be fighting heat. Make sure there are several inches of clearance at the back and the condenser is not coated in dust. If temperatures still climb on cooler nights, the problem is mechanical and worth a visit.
How long a Maytag repair should carry you
Maytag sits in the mainstream tier, so the repair-or-replace call mostly depends on which part failed. A lid lock, belt, igniter, thermal fuse or drain pump is an easy yes on most machines. Front-load tub bearings and refrigerator compressors are the bigger tickets, and we weigh them against the age and condition of the rest of the unit.
If two expensive parts are failing at once, we will say so. You should not be talked into a repair that only postpones a replacement by a few months.
