Refrigerators usually have a label on an inside wall or ceiling of the fresh food section. Washers and dryers have it under the lid, on the door frame or on the back. Dishwashers have it on the edge of the door or tub. Ranges have it behind the storage drawer or on the frame by the oven door. The first three digits identify the maker.
On Whirlpool-built direct-drive machines, the motor coupler is a small part designed to break before the motor or transmission does. When it fails, the motor runs but nothing moves. Agitator dogs can also wear and slip. Both are inexpensive repairs, and we check the transmission while we are there.
Many Kenmore Elite French door refrigerators were built by LG and carry a 795 model prefix, which means they share LG's compressor, ice maker and control designs. Others came from Whirlpool or Frigidaire. We confirm the prefix and diagnose the unit according to its true platform.

It may just be dirty. Moisture sensor bars inside the drum get coated with dryer-sheet and fabric-softener residue, which makes the dryer think the load is dry. Wipe them with a little rubbing alcohol. If cycles still end early, we test the sensor circuit, thermistor and control.

Kenmore began as a Sears house brand roughly a century ago, and countless valley homes still run Kenmore laundry, refrigerators and ranges bought decades ago or inherited with a house. Older central ranch homes and long-held rentals have plenty of them, many still working hard after years of daily use and a few owners.
Kenmore appliance repair has a twist no other brand shares: Kenmore never built most of its own products. Whirlpool, Frigidaire, LG and other makers produced them under contract, so two Kenmore dryers can be completely different machines inside. Identifying the actual manufacturer is the first step of every diagnosis we do.
Decoding who built your Kenmore
The first three digits of a Kenmore model number identify the source manufacturer. A 106 or 110 prefix generally means Whirlpool, 253 points to Frigidaire, and 795 or 796 to LG. That single detail tells us which ice maker, defrost system, drive or control we are dealing with and which parts fit.
So when you book, the most useful thing you can send is the full model number from the tag. It saves time on site and keeps parts orders accurate.

Owner checks for an older Kenmore
If an electric dryer runs but stays cool, check the breaker panel. Dryers need both legs of a 240-volt circuit, and one tripped half can leave the motor running with no heat. For a dishwasher that cleans the bottom rack but not the top, check that the upper spray arm turns freely and its holes are clear.
On an older direct-drive washer that fills and drains but will not agitate, stop running it and book a visit. The motor coupler is a likely culprit, and repeated attempts can damage more parts.
Is an old Kenmore worth fixing?
Often yes. Many older Kenmores were built on simple, durable platforms with plentiful parts, and a coupler, belt, thermal fuse or ice maker can keep them going for years. LG-built Elite models with inverter compressors are a bigger decision if the sealed system fails.
