How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Kenmore washers
Kenmore washers span many generations, from older direct-drive top-loaders built by Whirlpool to Kenmore Elite front-loaders and newer top-load models built by LG or Whirlpool. The model number prefix tells us which design we are working on, and that shapes the repair: direct-drive machines often need a motor coupler or lid switch, while front-loaders more often need door boots, drain pumps, spider arms or bearings. Unbalanced loads and suspension rods are common on top-loaders. A visit includes running diagnostics, reading error codes and checking the drain path before we quote a price.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Kenmore. If this washer is still under its factory warranty, contact Kenmore first.

- Front-loader smells musty with mold on the door boot

Repairing Kenmore washers in the Las Vegas Valley
Kenmore washers come from several makers. A 110 prefix usually means a Whirlpool-built machine, 796 points to LG and 417 to Frigidaire. Each uses a different drive design: Whirlpool's older direct-drive and belt machines, LG's direct-drive motor on the tub, and Frigidaire's front-load systems. The same complaint, a washer that will not spin, has a different cause on each.
Many Kenmore washers are still in daily use in valley rentals and garages, sometimes well past their expected life, with rubber hoses and seals that have baked through many summers. We identify the platform from the model tag, run test cycles, check the drain and drive system, and price the whole repair for your approval before any work starts.
Three common Kenmore washer families
Older Whirlpool-built top loaders with a direct-drive motor are simple and serviceable, and many parts are shared with Roper and Whirlpool washers of the same era. Newer Whirlpool-built top loaders use an impeller or agitator with a lid lock and an electronic control.
LG-built Kenmore Elite front loaders use LG's direct-drive motor and many of the same faults as an LG front loader, such as door locks, drain pumps and hall sensors. Frigidaire-built front loaders have their own door lock, pump and bearing designs.
Leaks, and how to tell where they come from
Water under a Kenmore washer can come from the fill hoses, the drain hose, the pump, a door boot on a front loader or a tub seal. Leaks during fill point toward hoses and valves, while leaks during drain or spin point toward the pump or boot. Noting when the water appears saves time on the visit.
What to try before booking
Check that the washer is level and all four feet touch the floor. Look at both fill hoses for bulges or drips, especially if they are rubber hoses that have been in a hot garage for years. On a front loader, clean the pump filter if your model has an access door.
Turn off the water valves and unplug the washer before touching anything behind it. Do not run the washer with a known leak, since water near the outlet is a shock risk.
Repair or replace an older Kenmore washer
Couplers, lid switches, pumps and suspension rods on top loaders are inexpensive repairs. Front-loader door boots and pumps are moderate. Tub bearings and transmissions are bigger jobs, and on an older Kenmore that is often the point where replacement deserves a serious look. We will tell you which category your repair falls into.

On the long-running Whirlpool-built direct-drive models, the motor coupler is the most common cause. It is a plastic and rubber link between motor and transmission designed to fail first under overload, which protects more expensive parts. If you hear the motor running without agitation, the coupler is a likely suspect. It is typically a reasonable repair.
Odors often come from residue and mold trapped in the folds of the door boot, inside the drain pump filter, or on the outer tub where you cannot see. Clean the gasket folds and the pump filter, run a cleaning cycle, and leave the door open between washes. If the boot is torn or heavily stained, it may need replacement.
It can be. A banging or knocking sound during spin on some front-loaders comes from a cracked spider arm, the aluminum bracket that holds the drum to the shaft. Corrosion from detergent residue and hard water can weaken it. Stop using the washer and schedule an inspection, because a broken spider can damage the tub.
Check the leveling legs first and make sure all four touch the floor firmly, then tighten their lock nuts. On a new install, confirm the shipping bolts were removed. Overloading with a single heavy item such as a rug can also unbalance it. If it still moves, the suspension rods or shock absorbers may be worn.
Often they are, because the washer was built on that maker's platform. A Whirlpool-built Kenmore frequently shares pumps, switches and couplers with Whirlpool and Roper machines of the same design. An LG-built model shares many parts with LG washers. The exact part numbers still depend on the model, so we confirm compatibility before ordering.
On newer models with a lid lock, a failing lock or lid switch can stop the cycle. A clogged drain pump or kinked drain hose can leave water behind and trigger an error. On older direct-drive machines, a broken motor coupler stops agitation and spin while the motor still runs. We test each in turn.
Leave the door and detergent drawer open after use so the drum dries. Use a high-efficiency detergent in the right amount, since too much leaves residue. Run a tub-clean cycle or a hot cycle with a washer cleaner every month or so. Wipe the door boot folds, where water and lint collect.
Not at all. Some Whirlpool-built Kenmore top loaders were made to last, and plenty are still working. Their parts are simple, and many are still available. As they age, seals, couplers, belts and transmissions eventually need attention. We can tell you whether yours is in good shape or nearing the end.
A washer that drains but does not spin fast may have a failing lid lock or switch, a worn coupler or belt, or an unbalanced load sensor that cuts spin short. On front loaders, an unbalanced load is a common cause. Try spinning a balanced load. If the problem continues, have the drive and lock checked.
