How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about GE Appliances washers
GE washers include top-load agitator and impeller models plus front-loaders, and the failure patterns differ between them. On top-loaders we regularly replace lid lock assemblies, shifters that won't switch between agitate and spin, and drain pumps clogged by socks or coins. Front-load GE units more often need door boot seals, drain pump work or attention to a spider arm or bearing when the drum gets loud on spin. A visit starts with running a diagnostic cycle, checking the drain path and inspecting the suspension, then quoting a single price for the fix.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with GE Appliances. If this washer is still under its factory warranty, contact GE Appliances first.

Repairing GE Appliances washers in the Las Vegas Valley
GE sells two very different washer families. The top-loaders, with either a center agitator or a low-profile impeller, use a shifter mechanism that changes the drive between washing and spinning. The front-loaders use a horizontal drum on a three-arm spider, much like other brands, with a pump and a rubber door boot at the front.
Knowing which of the two you own is the first step in diagnosis. It decides which parts are likely, how long the visit takes and whether repair is good value. A GE top-loader that stops mid-cycle and a GE front-loader that stops mid-cycle almost never share a cause, so we treat them as separate machines from the first question we ask.
Top-load GE: what the shifter does
On many GE top-loaders, a small shifter assembly under the tub moves the drive between agitate and spin. When it fails, the machine can fill and wash normally and then sit full of water, or spin with a loud clunk. The lid lock is part of the same story, because the control will not spin unless it confirms the lid is locked.
These failures are often mistaken for a dead motor. In practice the motor is usually fine, which is why we test before anyone orders an expensive part.
Front-load GE: gasket, pump and drum
GE front-loaders are prone to the same moisture issues as any front-loader, and newer ones include a vent system meant to help the door boot dry between loads. Leaks most often come from a torn boot or a loose clamp, and the drain pump has a filter you can reach from the front.
A roar on high spin that gets louder over weeks usually means tub bearings. That repair involves splitting the tub, so we look at the machine's age and condition before recommending it.
What you can check before we arrive
Make sure the water supply valves are fully open and the inlet hoses are not kinked behind the machine. If the washer will not drain, check that the drain hose is not pushed too far into the standpipe and that nothing is pinched.
On a front-loader you can open the pump filter door with a towel and shallow pan ready, since water will come out. Do not force a locked lid or door open, and unplug the washer before reaching under or behind it.
Garage laundry and hard water
Many valley homes put the washer in the garage, where summer heat dries rubber parts and makes hoses brittle sooner. We check hose condition on every visit for that reason.
Hard water leaves scale in the inlet valve screens and can slow fills. Cleaning or replacing the valve is a modest repair, and it is often the fix for a washer that seems to stall at the start of a cycle.

On many GE top-loaders the lid lock must confirm the lid is closed before spin, so a failed lock is a frequent cause. A blocked drain pump or a worn shifter assembly can also stop the spin. Try a drain and spin cycle with the lid firmly closed. If it still won't spin, a technician can test each part.
Leave the door open between loads, wipe the door boot seal and pull out the dispenser drawer to dry. Use high-efficiency detergent in the correct amount and run a tub clean cycle monthly. Hard water leaves mineral film that holds residue, so a descaling cleaner now and then helps on valley water.
A loud spin can be something minor, such as an unbalanced load or a worn suspension rod, or something larger like failed tub bearings. Bearing jobs on front-loaders are labor heavy, so we diagnose first and tell you which it is. You then decide with a firm price in hand.
If the washer is leaking, yes. Close both supply valves behind the machine and unplug it, then mop up so we can see where water is coming from. If it is not leaking, leave everything connected so we can run test cycles and watch the fill and drain in action.
It should be level and steady on all four feet. An unlevel washer walks, bangs on spin and puts extra wear on the suspension and the shifter. Set a level across the top, adjust the front feet and lock them, and make sure the washer does not rock. Garage floors often slope toward the door, so check this after any move.
The control keeps the lid locked while water is in the tub for safety. If the drain pump is blocked or failed, the water never leaves and the lock never releases. Turn the washer off, unplug it and wait a few minutes. If it still will not unlock, book a repair rather than prying the lid, which can break the lock assembly.
Impeller models move clothes with a low cone at the bottom of the basket rather than a tall post, and they generally treat fabric gently when loaded correctly. Overloading or packing items tightly is what tends to cause tangling and uneven wash. If the impeller makes grinding sounds, the drive or shifter may be wearing and should be checked.
A small leak can damage subfloor, cabinets and drywall long before it looks serious, and in a garage it can reach stored items or the water heater area. Wipe the boot and look for a tear or debris in the fold first. If water still appears, stop using the machine until the source is found.
There is no fixed age. A ten-year-old top-loader that needs a lid lock or pump is often worth fixing. The same machine needing a new transmission or a front-loader needing bearings and a spider arm may not be. We give you the repair price and our honest view of the machine's remaining condition so you can decide.
