What to look at before calling about a Frigidaire
On a front-load washer, peel back the door boot and look in the lower fold for standing water, lint and debris. Wiping it and leaving the door open between loads prevents much of the odor. If a chest freezer is frosting heavily, run a hand around the lid gasket; a warped section lets warm air in.
For a gas oven that heats slowly, watch through the window after you turn it on. If the igniter glows for a long time before the burner lights, it is likely weak. Turn the oven off if you smell gas, ventilate, and contact the gas utility.
Repair value on a budget-friendly brand
Most Frigidaire parts are inexpensive and easy to source, so igniters, elements, door boots, pumps, switches and defrost parts are worth fixing on units in reasonable condition. A standalone freezer with a healthy compressor is also usually worth saving.
