What to know about Frigidaire stoves

A Frigidaire stove is often the first appliance in a starter home or rental, typically a freestanding gas range or an electric model with coil or glass elements. On the cooktop side, gas burners clog and lose ignition after boil-overs, while coil stoves burn out elements and receptacles, and glass tops lose radiant elements. We also see oven door hinges that loosen on heavily used freestanding stoves. A visit includes checking all burners, the gas connection or power cord, the anti-tip bracket and the oven door, then quoting the repair with parts identified.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Frigidaire. If this stove is still under its factory warranty, contact Frigidaire first.

Where Frigidaire stoves usually fail

  • Gas burner lights on one side only from clogged ports
  • Coil element burns out and receptacle shows scorch marks
  • Glass-top radiant element cracks or stops glowing
  • Oven door hinge loosens and the door will not close
  • Burner knob shaft cracks so the valve will not turn

Repairing Frigidaire stoves in the Las Vegas Valley

When people ask for Frigidaire stove repair, they usually mean the surface they cook on: four gas burners, coil elements or a smooth glass top on a freestanding unit. Many of these stoves are entry-level models in apartments and older rental homes, where a dead burner is an everyday headache for a tenant and a quick, inexpensive fix is the priority for the owner.

The cooktop side of a Frigidaire stove has simple parts that wear predictably. We check each burner or element, the switches behind the knobs and the gas or electrical supply, and tell you exactly what is needed before any repair. If the oven below also has a problem, we note it, but the cooktop is where these calls usually start.

Gas burners on Frigidaire stoves

Most gas Frigidaire stoves use sealed burners with spark ignition, while some older units still have standing pilots. Boil-overs leave residue on the burner ports and electrodes, so a burner that sparks without lighting usually needs cleaning or a new electrode.

A burner that lights but produces a low, lazy flame can have a partly blocked orifice. Grease that has hardened in the burner base is another common cause on stoves that see daily frying. We check the burner caps and the orifices and confirm that the valve opens fully before replacing any component.

Coil and glass electric stovetops

Coil stoves are the simplest to repair: elements plug into receptacles, and both parts are replaceable. A coil that works only when wiggled points to a loose or burned receptacle.

On glass-top stoves, a dead zone can be the element, the switch or the wiring beneath the glass. We test each part with power off and confirm the fix with the element heating. A glass top that has started to discolor near one zone can be a sign that wiring underneath is overheating.

What tenants and owners can check

Swap a working coil into the dead receptacle to see whether the element or receptacle is at fault. On gas stoves, make sure the burner cap sits flat and the electrode is dry. Check that the stove's anti-tip bracket is in place, especially in homes with children.

Shut off the gas or breaker before pulling the stove out. If you smell gas, leave the stove off and contact the gas utility.

Repair or replace an entry-level stove

Coils, receptacles, igniters and knobs cost little, and replacing them makes sense on almost any Frigidaire stove. Switches and glass tops cost more but usually still make sense on a newer unit.

If the stove also has an oven fault and is very old, replacement may be more practical. For landlords with several identical units, we can note common parts that are worth keeping on hand. We let you know when that is the case rather than recommending a series of repairs.

Grease or boiled-over food in the burner ports blocks the gas, so the flame does not spread around the ring. Let the stove cool, remove the cap and burner head, clean the ports with a soft brush or straight pin and dry completely. Avoid enlarging the holes. If the flame is still uneven, we can inspect the burner and valve.

Yes. Door hinges wear or bend on freestanding stoves, especially if the door is leaned on. A gap lets heat escape and can affect baking. The hinges are usually replaceable, and we also check the door gasket. Do not use the oven with a door that hangs open significantly.

Yes. Many Frigidaire stoves we work on are in rental properties. Share the tenant's availability, the model number if possible and a description of the problem. We diagnose on site and get one price approved before work starts, so the owner or property manager knows the cost up front.

The knob may be stripped, or the plastic shaft on the valve or switch beneath it may have cracked. Try a different knob from another burner. If the new knob also spins freely, the valve or infinite switch needs replacement, which we can handle after shutting off gas or power.

That points to a loose or burned receptacle where the coil plugs in. Over time the terminals oxidize, lose contact and start to arc, which is why you may see darkened metal or a melted spot. Replacing the receptacle, and usually the coil that was plugged into it, restores a solid connection. Keep using that burner and the damage spreads to the wiring.

Clicking after ignition usually means the spark switch is wet or damaged, or the burner is not fully lit around the cap. Water from cleaning or a boil-over is a frequent cause, so let the area dry for a day before assuming a part has failed. If clicking continues once everything is dry, the switch behind that knob may need replacement, and we test each switch to find which one is shorting.

No. Knob shapes, shaft types and markings vary by model and series. We match the knobs to the stove's model number so the fit and the markings are correct. A cracked knob on a gas stove should be replaced promptly, because a loose knob can leave a burner partly open without anyone noticing.

No. A crack can expose live parts and let spills reach the elements. Turn off the breaker for that stove and arrange for glass replacement or a new stove. Glass tops are usually still available for newer models; on older entry-level stoves, the cost of new glass can push the decision toward replacement.

Simple parts such as coils, receptacles and igniters can sometimes be replaced during the first visit if they are in stock. Switches, glass and model-specific parts take a few days to arrive. We give the property owner a clear diagnosis and a price to approve, and we can coordinate access with the tenant so nobody has to take a day off for the return visit.
