How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Hotpoint stoves
Hotpoint stoves are freestanding units, mostly electric coil models with some gas versions, and they show up in many older apartment complexes and rental houses. On coil stoves the receptacles the burners plug into are the weak point: they loosen, burn and eventually stop delivering power, and a burner that wobbles or tilts is often the first sign. Gas versions use spark ignition that can fail after spills. A stove visit covers the burners, switches and receptacles, a basic check of the oven, and an inspection of the cord or gas connection behind the stove.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Hotpoint. If this stove is still under its factory warranty, contact Hotpoint first.
Where Hotpoint stoves usually fail
- Coil receptacle loose so the burner wobbles or tilts
- Burned receptacle terminals cutting power to one burner
- Spark igniter soaked after spills on gas models
- Oven light socket or switch burned out
- Power cord connection loose at the back of the stove

Repairing Hotpoint stoves in the Las Vegas Valley
When people say Hotpoint stove, they usually mean a freestanding range where most of the daily wear happens on the top: four coil burners on electric models, or four sealed or open gas burners on gas models. This page covers that surface; the oven has its own page. Gas versions use a similar layout with burner caps and grates.
Hotpoint stoves are common in older apartment complexes, rental houses and the 1950s to 70s ranch homes in the central valley, where they may have been replaced several times over the decades. The parts are widely available, and most burner problems can be fixed in one visit. Receptacles, switches and igniters are usually on the truck.
Coil burners and receptacles
On electric Hotpoint stoves, the plug-in coil burners sit in receptacles that carry 240 volts. Over time those receptacles loosen, the terminals burn, and the burner works only when wiggled. A burner that tilts or wobbles is often the first sign, and the receptacle should be replaced before it damages the new element.
Gas burners and ignition
Gas Hotpoint stoves usually use spark ignition. Spills that soak the igniter or the switch behind the knob can cause clicking that will not stop or burners that will not light. Some older models still use standing pilots, which need cleaning and adjustment when they go out.
If you smell gas when the burners are off, shut off the gas supply, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
Checks owners can do
For electric stoves, swap the problem burner with a working one of the same size to see whether the fault moves. For gas stoves, remove and dry the burner caps and heads, and make sure they sit flat. Check that the stove is plugged in, since gas models need power for ignition.
Do not use foil to line burner pans or gas burner bowls. It can block airflow, trap heat and short receptacles.
Rental turnover and stove wear
Stoves in rental homes and apartment units often go through many tenants. Burner pans get replaced with the wrong size, knobs go missing, receptacles burn and cleaning products damage switches. During a turnover inspection or a repair visit, we check every burner, knob and receptacle so the next tenant starts with a working stove.
Getting more years from the stove
Burner receptacles, elements, switches, igniters and knobs are inexpensive repairs that extend the life of a Hotpoint stove. Replacement makes sense mainly when the cooktop surface is badly rusted, the oven is also failing, or the stove is very old and parts are getting harder to find.

That points to a worn or burned receptacle. The terminals inside lose tension and no longer grip the burner, which creates poor contact, heat and eventually arcing. Turn the stove off at the breaker. Replacing the receptacle and, if damaged, the burner restores a solid connection. Continuing to use it can melt the wiring.
Generally, yes. Hotpoint shares many parts with GE models, and common pieces such as coils, receptacles, switches and igniters are widely stocked, which usually keeps repair time short. Less common parts, such as control boards on newer models, can take longer to arrive, and we tell you before ordering.
Wipe up spills after each use once the burners cool, and give the caps and heads a deeper cleaning every month or so. Food and grease in the ports cause uneven flames and ignition delays. Do not soak burner parts without drying them thoroughly, because wet igniters cause clicking and failure to light.
Turn off the stove and its breaker. A burnt plastic smell can come from something melted on a burner or in the oven, which is harmless once removed. It can also be wiring insulation or a receptacle overheating, which is a fire risk. If there is no melted item in sight, have the stove inspected before using it again.
Water or cleaner on the igniter or in the burner ports is the usual cause. Let the burners dry completely, or warm them gently by lighting another burner. If the clicking continues once dry, a switch or igniter may need replacing.
Use coil burners matched to your model's size and terminal design. A mismatched burner may fit loosely, arc at the receptacle and damage it. Check the model number on the frame when the door is open. The part number is printed in the manual.
On electric stoves, a burner that stays very hot regardless of setting often has a stuck switch. On gas stoves, a burner with a much larger flame may have the wrong orifice or a valve problem. Both need a technician.
The knob may be stripped or the switch stem broken. Replacing the knob is simple. If the stem itself is damaged, the switch needs to be replaced. We match the switch to your model number. Keep the old knob for reference when ordering, since knob styles changed between model years.
Often, yes, because the parts are simple and widely available. We look at the condition of the cooktop surface and oven, and we tell you if the overall condition makes replacement the smarter choice. A stove with a rusted-through top or a failing oven as well may be the exception.
