Keep the lid or door closed, since a full freezer can hold its temperature for a day or more if left alone. If the temperature is clearly rising, move food to another freezer or a cooler packed with ice. Use a thermometer to check food, and when in doubt about safety, throw it out.
Manual-defrost chest freezers collect frost over time, and they need to be defrosted when the frost gets about a quarter inch thick. Frost building quickly, especially around the lid, usually points to a worn gasket, a lid that is not closing fully or frequent opening. Fix the seal and frost slows down.
The alarm sounds when the cabinet climbs above a set point, often after a door was left open, a power outage or a long loading session. If it keeps going off with the door closed, the freezer is not keeping up, and that needs a diagnosis. Note the displayed temperature when you call us.
Yes. We service commercial reach-in and undercounter freezers from brands like True, Turbo Air, Atosa and Everest for restaurants, bars and other businesses. Commercial units work hard and often sit in hot kitchens, so condenser cleaning and fan checks are part of the visit.
Running constantly usually means the freezer cannot reach its set temperature. Common reasons are a dirty condenser, a weak condenser fan, a leaking gasket, a defrost failure that has iced the coil, or a very hot room. Running nonstop wears the compressor, so it is worth having checked.
No. We are an independent repair company and are not factory-authorized by any manufacturer. If your freezer is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact the manufacturer first, since work by an independent shop may not be covered. Out-of-warranty freezers get manufacturer-specified parts by default and a 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty on the repair.
Freezer repair in the Las Vegas Valley
Standalone freezers come in two main types. Chest freezers usually rely on manual defrost and cooling tubes inside the walls, while uprights may be manual or frost-free, with a fan and a defrost system like a refrigerator's. That difference changes which parts fail and how a technician approaches the job.
Garage freezers are common in the neighborhoods we serve, and summer heat in a closed garage can push a unit past the room temperature its design assumes. Compressors run almost nonstop, start relays wear out, and dust clogs condensers. Freezer repair here often starts with how hard the unit is working and whether its location is part of the story.
Warning signs from a standalone freezer
Ice cream that has gone soft, a temperature alarm, thick frost around the lid or door, water on the floor, or a compressor that runs without stopping are typical early signs. On chest freezers, owners sometimes find the outside walls hot to the touch, which is normal up to a point because the condenser runs through them.
Faults that cause freezers to warm up
Worn lid and door gaskets let in warm, humid air, which turns into frost. On frost-free uprights, the defrost heater, thermostat or control can fail, so the coil ices over and airflow stops. Evaporator and condenser fans, start relays, thermostats and electronic controls also fail.
A compressor that will not start, or a slow refrigerant leak, is the most serious outcome and the point where repair versus replacement needs a careful look.
Freezer brands we support
We service chest and upright freezers from Frigidaire, GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana and Insignia, built-in freezer columns from Sub-Zero, Thermador, Viking and Miele, and commercial reach-in freezers from True, Turbo Air, Atosa, Everest and Hoshizaki.
What happens during a freezer service call
The technician measures cabinet temperature, listens for the compressor and fans, checks the condenser and runs a finger along the gasket for gaps. On frost-free models the evaporator panel may be removed to check for ice. Relays, thermostats and heaters are tested with a meter.
You approve one price covering parts and labor before any repair starts.
