How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Atosa freezers
Atosa freezers include one, two and three-door reach-ins, undercounter freezers and worktop units used for frozen ingredients in restaurants and bars. Unlike the refrigerators, freezers rely on an electric defrost system, with a heater, drain line heater and a controller that schedules defrost cycles, so failed defrost is a frequent cause of warming and iced evaporators. Other common repairs include condenser fan motors, door gaskets that let humid kitchen air in, frozen drain lines and controller faults. On a visit we inspect the evaporator, test the defrost heaters and controller settings, check gaskets and the condenser, and quote a repair.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Atosa. If this freezer is still under its factory warranty, contact Atosa first.
Where Atosa freezers usually fail
- Evaporator coil completely iced over from failed defrost heater
- Drain line frozen, leaving ice on the cabinet floor
- Freezer door gasket torn, causing frost near the door
- Defrost cycle too long or too frequent after a settings change
- Compressor running constantly in a hot kitchen

Repairing Atosa freezers in the Las Vegas Valley
Atosa's commercial freezers come as one, two and three-door reach-ins, plus undercounter and worktop units for the line. They share cabinets and condensing units with Atosa's refrigerators, but they work very differently inside. A freezer evaporator runs well below freezing, so it collects frost all day and depends on an electric defrost system to clear it.
That defrost system is where most Atosa freezer problems start. A heater, a drain line heater and a controller that schedules defrost cycles all have to work together. When one fails, ice builds on the coil, airflow drops and the cabinet warms, often slowly enough that the first sign is soft product rather than an alarm.
Defrost: heaters, termination and drain lines
During defrost, the controller stops the fans and powers a heater on the evaporator. A probe or thermostat ends the cycle when the coil is clear. If the heater burns out, frost never clears. If termination fails, the cycle can run too long and warm the box. If the drain line heater fails, melt water freezes in the drain and ice spreads onto the cabinet floor.
We test each part of that chain rather than replacing the heater on suspicion.
Humid kitchen air and door traffic
Our outdoor air is dry, but a commercial kitchen is not. Steam tables, dish machines and cooking add moisture, and every door opening lets it into the freezer. Torn gaskets and doors that do not close on their own let in a steady stream, which loads the coil with frost faster than a normal defrost schedule can handle.
Checks your team can make
Look through the evaporator cover for a solid white block of ice. Check gaskets for tears and confirm doors swing closed. Note how often the controller shows a defrost indicator, and whether ice is building on the floor under the coil.
Do not chip ice off the evaporator with knives or tools. Puncturing the coil turns a defrost repair into a sealed-system repair on an R290 unit.
The service visit and what it costs you in downtime
If the coil is iced solid, we start a manual defrost or thaw it safely, then test the heater, termination, drain heater, fans and controller settings. We check condenser cleanliness and gaskets while the cabinet is empty. Plan to move product to another freezer for that time.
Before any part goes in, you approve a single figure covering parts and labor. Defrost parts, fans, gaskets and controllers are worth replacing on most units.

A completely iced evaporator usually means the defrost system is not working. The heater, drain heater, or the controller's defrost settings may be at fault. Door gaskets that leak add moisture and speed up icing. Manually defrosting temporarily helps, but the underlying problem should be diagnosed and fixed.
Defrost water normally drains through a heated line to an evaporation pan. If the drain heater fails or the line clogs, water refreezes inside the cabinet. Clearing the ice is temporary. The drain line and heater should be checked so the problem does not return.
The controller has parameters for defrost frequency and length, but changing them without understanding the system can cause icing or warming. If settings were changed, restoring the factory values is a good first step. We can check settings during a visit and confirm the defrost system is working.
Hot kitchens raise the load on refrigeration. If the condenser is dirty or the fan is weak, the compressor runs longer and may struggle to hold temperature. Clean the condenser and keep space around the unit for airflow. If it still runs constantly, refrigerant charge or compressor issues may need testing.
Thawing a fully iced evaporator can take some time, depending on how much ice has built up. The repair itself, such as a heater or termination probe, is usually quick once the coil is clear. We plan with you so product can be moved to other cold storage while the work is done.
Factory settings suit most kitchens, but very high door traffic or humid conditions sometimes need adjustments to defrost frequency or length. Changing them without understanding the system can cause icing or warming. We review settings after confirming the parts are healthy.
Air from the evaporator fan should circulate through the whole cabinet. A partly iced coil, a slow fan or product stacked against the air outlet can leave the top warmer. Check that shelves are not overloaded and air paths are clear before booking.
It can, but radiant heat and grease-laden air make the condenser work much harder and clog faster. If possible, leave space and keep the condenser intake away from fryer exhaust. More frequent condenser cleaning is the practical answer when space is tight.
In a busy kitchen, monthly cleaning is a reasonable baseline, with more frequent cleaning near fryers or flour. A clean condenser lowers run time and protects the compressor. We can show your staff how to do it safely during a visit.
