How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about LG freezers
Most LG freezer calls we take involve the freezer compartment of a French door or bottom-freezer refrigerator, plus some of the upright and convertible units LG has sold. Those freezers use a no-frost design with an evaporator behind the rear panel, a fan, and a timed defrost heater. When frost builds on the back wall or food starts to soften, the defrost system or the fan is the usual suspect. In a bottom drawer, a damaged gasket or a misaligned drawer track can let warm air in. On the visit we check defrost parts, fan, gasket, and sealed-system temperatures.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with LG. If this freezer is still under its factory warranty, contact LG first.
Where LG freezers usually fail
- Frost building on the back panel from a defrost heater failure
- Freezer drawer not sealing because of worn tracks or gaskets
- Evaporator fan noise or stall leaving food soft
- Defrost drain freezing and forming ice on the freezer floor
- Freezer temperature drifting while the fresh-food side seems fine

Repairing LG freezers in the Las Vegas Valley
Most LG freezer problems we see are in the pull-out drawer of a French door or bottom-mount refrigerator. LG also sells column and convertible units, some of which can switch between fridge and freezer settings. In each case the freezer is frost-free: an evaporator sits behind a rear panel, a fan moves air across it, and a heater melts the frost on a schedule.
When any piece of that loop fails, frost spreads, airflow drops and the temperature creeps up. Some LG freezers also house the Craft Ice maker, which adds its own fan and water line. We trace the fault through the defrost circuit, fan and seals, then quote one price before doing any work.
Where cold air goes in an LG freezer drawer
The freezer fan in an LG bottom-mount pushes air both into the drawer and up a duct toward the fresh-food side and, on many models, the door ice maker. A frosted evaporator starves both compartments, which is why a freezer fault often shows up first as a warm refrigerator.
Drawer slides and rails matter more than people expect. If one rail is bent or a basket sits off its track, the drawer stops just short of sealing, and moist air turns into frost along the top edge.
Ice on the floor of the drawer
A sheet of ice under the bottom basket usually means water from the defrost cycle is not leaving through the drain. The drain can freeze if the heater or its clip is not doing its job, or it can block with debris. Chipping away the ice treats the symptom. The defrost drain and heater need to be checked to stop it coming back.
Owner checks and safe limits
Pull the drawer fully and look at the rails and the gasket for tears, bent corners or food stuck in the track. Listen for the fan when the door switch is pressed. Make sure nothing is blocking the vents on the back wall inside the freezer.
Do not use sharp tools or a heat gun to remove frost from the back panel. If you need to defrost manually while you wait for a visit, unplug the unit, move food to a cooler and use towels to catch melt water.
Repair value on LG freezers
Defrost heaters, sensors, fans and drawer parts are typical repairs that keep an LG freezer in service for years. Sealed-system problems are less common and cost more. For a freezer section built into a larger refrigerator, the decision depends on the whole unit's condition, so we look at the compressor, the fresh-food side and the ice system together before recommending anything.
In a garage, a freezer works much harder through a valley summer. If your LG unit lives there, ask us about placement and ventilation during the visit.

Water from each defrost cycle runs down a drain tube to a pan under the refrigerator. If the drain freezes or clogs, that water overflows and freezes on the drawer floor. A failed drain heater or a defrost problem is often behind it. We clear the drain, then find out why it froze so it does not return.
Yes, in most cases. Overloaded baskets bend drawer rails, and broken rollers or a cracked slide let the drawer sit crooked so the gasket cannot seal. Check that nothing is blocking the back of the drawer first. Rail and gasket replacements are usually straightforward once we have the exact model number.
A full freezer that stays closed generally holds food frozen far longer than a half-empty one, so keep the drawer shut and avoid checking it often. Grouping items together helps them stay cold. If you have a cooler and ice, move the most valuable items. When you book, tell us what is happening so we can prioritize the visit.
LG refrigerator freezers are frost-free and should never need manual defrosting. Visible frost on the back panel or around the vents is a symptom, not normal operation. It usually means the defrost heater, its thermostat or the control is not completing the defrost cycle. A technician can test each part and replace only the one that failed.
The top front of the drawer is the first area to warm when the door seal leaks or the drawer does not close fully. A bent rail, an overfilled basket or a worn gasket corner can all leave a small gap. Frost or soft spots along the top edge are a typical sign. Check the rails and gasket, then have the seal or rails replaced if needed.
You can, and it may keep food usable while you wait for a visit, but it can hide symptoms. A unit that cannot hold freezer temperature may manage fridge temperature, which makes a sealed-system or defrost problem harder to spot. Tell us which mode it was in when the trouble started and how long it has been switched.
Yes. Models with Craft Ice use a separate maker and fan inside the freezer, and making round ice uses a slower freeze. It is designed for that, but a failing fan, leaking water line or blocked air path can frost the area and cut cooling to the rest of the compartment. Turning the ice maker off for diagnosis is sometimes useful.
A short fan whir after closing the door is normal, since the fan restarts. A clicking, ticking or scraping sound usually means the fan blade is hitting ice, which points to a defrost fault. A loud continuous buzz from the back could be the condenser fan or the compressor area. Note when the noise happens; it helps narrow the cause.
Most owners set the freezer at or near zero degrees Fahrenheit, which is the commonly recommended setting for food storage. If the display reads the setting you chose but a thermometer in the drawer shows a much warmer temperature, the freezer is not keeping up and should be checked. Lowering the setting rarely fixes a mechanical fault.
