How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about KitchenAid freezers
KitchenAid freezer service covers the bottom freezer drawers on French door refrigerators and the built-in all-freezer columns used in custom kitchens. Drawer freezers often frost up when the drawer does not close fully, since a slightly misaligned slide or an overloaded basket breaks the seal. Ice makers in the freezer can jam or stop filling. Defrost heater and sensor failures cause ice to block the evaporator, and a stalled fan lets the drawer warm up. On columns, door alignment and condenser dust matter. We check the seal and airflow first, then test defrost and the ice maker.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with KitchenAid. If this freezer is still under its factory warranty, contact KitchenAid first.

- Freezer drawer not closing fully, causing heavy frost
- Drawer slides misaligned from overloading the basket
- Ice maker in the drawer jammed or not filling

Repairing KitchenAid freezers in the Las Vegas Valley
Most KitchenAid freezer calls involve the bottom drawer of a French door refrigerator. Some involve a built-in freezer column paired with a refrigerator column in a custom kitchen. Both use the same basic refrigeration principles, but the drawer and column designs change where problems start and what we check first.
A drawer depends on slides, baskets and a seal that closes evenly. A column depends on door alignment, airflow and a condenser that can breathe within cabinetry. We look at those mechanical parts before testing defrost, fans and controls, because a bent slide or a pinched gasket is cheaper to fix than anything electrical.
Drawer seal and slide problems
A KitchenAid freezer drawer must close evenly to seal. If a slide is bent, a basket is overloaded or a package is caught, warm air enters and frost forms. The freezer may run longer and food may get freezer burn.
We check the slides, baskets, gasket and drawer alignment. Many frost problems are solved mechanically before any refrigeration part is replaced.
Defrost and airflow
Frost-free freezers melt frost from the evaporator on a schedule. If the heater, sensor or control fails, frost blocks airflow. The freezer warms and the fresh-food side may also suffer.
A stalled evaporator fan can cause similar symptoms. We test the defrost circuit and fan before recommending repair.
Built-in freezer columns
Freezer columns are designed for integrated kitchens. Their door must align with cabinetry, and their condenser must breathe through a grille. Dust and blocked grilles can make them run hot.
Ice makers in columns can also jam or stop filling, especially if the water valve or supply line has scale or a kink.
Owner checks before a visit
Remove packages that block the drawer, make sure baskets are seated and close the drawer gently to check for gaps. Clean visible grille dust and check the water filter if the ice maker is slow.
Do not chip ice or pry panels. If heavy frost is present, unplugging and defrosting can help, but call if the problem returns.
Weighing the repair on a drawer or column
Slides, gaskets, fans, sensors, defrost parts and ice makers are worthwhile repairs on most KitchenAid units, given what a replacement French door or column costs. A built-in column is rarely replaced for anything short of a compressor or leak late in its life, and even then the cabinet fit makes repair worth pricing first.

The drawer has to close fully and seal along the gasket. An overloaded basket, an item caught at the back or a slide that has been knocked out of alignment can leave a small gap, and moist air turns to frost quickly. Check that the drawer closes on its own and that the gasket is clean and not torn. Slides and gaskets can be replaced.
Make sure the ice maker is turned on and the bin is seated correctly, since some models stop if the bin is not detected. Check that the water filter is not overdue and the water supply is on. Look for ice jammed in the mold or chute. If ice still is not produced, the valve, fill tube or ice maker module needs testing.
Usually. Warming is commonly caused by a stalled fan, a failed defrost component, a door not sealing or a clogged condenser. Built-in columns move heat out through a grille that collects dust in a dry climate. We check those parts first, since they are far more common and affordable than a sealed system problem.
A buzzing sound is often the water valve trying to fill an ice maker when the water supply is off. A rattle or grinding is more likely a fan blade hitting ice or a worn motor. Check whether the noise stops when the ice maker is turned off. If it continues, we can locate the source and replace the part.
Load it fully but evenly, without overfilling baskets so they push on the drawer or prevent closing. Heavy loads in one area can stress the slides. If the drawer drags or does not close by itself, remove some weight and check the slides.
Many are. Refrigerant moving through the tubing gurgles, the defrost heater makes water drip and sizzle on the coil, and the ice maker hums and fills on its own schedule. Loud banging, a fan that rattles or squeals, or water you can see collecting on the drawer floor or on the kitchen floor are not normal and should be checked.
Empty it, lift out the baskets if your model allows, and wash with mild soap and warm water. Skip harsh cleaners and anything abrasive on the gasket. Dry the gasket fully before closing, since a damp seal can freeze to the cabinet and tear. While the baskets are out, look at the slides for ice or debris that keeps the drawer from closing evenly.
Zero degrees Fahrenheit is the usual target. The display shows the setting, not always the actual drawer temperature, so put a thermometer in the middle of the basket overnight. If the drawer reads much warmer than the setting after a full day without heavy door use, something in the defrost, airflow or sealing is likely off.
Most do not. They are designed so the grille, fans, controls and many refrigeration parts are reachable from the front. Removal is mainly for sealed-system work or major internal repairs. Columns are heavy, anchored to the cabinetry and often panel-matched, so if removal is ever needed, we plan it in advance with you.
