The lock should release once the cavity cools, which can take an hour or more. If it stays locked when the oven is cold, the lock motor, its switch or the control has usually failed. Turn the oven off at the breaker for a minute to reset it. Do not pry the door, since that can bend the latch or crack the glass.
Usually. First, confirm with a standalone oven thermometer placed in the center after a full preheat. Many controls let you offset the temperature by a few degrees. If the error is large or varies, the sensor or a weak heat source is more likely, and the technician will measure the sensor against its specification.
Self-clean runs the oven far hotter than normal cooking, and that heat is hard on door locks, thermal fuses and control boards. If your oven is older or has had control problems, cleaning by hand is the gentler option. Never run self-clean right before a holiday or a big meal, in case something fails.
Each cavity in a double wall oven normally has its own elements, sensor and relay, even though one control runs both. So a cold lower oven usually means a failure in that cavity's own parts, not a problem with the whole appliance. The technician measures those parts and checks the board's output for that oven before quoting.
The element shorted and burned through, which sometimes throws sparks for a moment. Turn the oven off at the breaker. A replacement element is usually a straightforward repair, but we also check the wiring terminals and the relay that fed it, since a burned connection can cause the new element to fail.
No. We are an independent repair company and are not factory-authorized by any manufacturer. If your oven is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact the manufacturer first, since work by an independent shop may not be covered. Out-of-warranty ovens get manufacturer-specified parts by default and a 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty on the repair.
Oven repair in the Las Vegas Valley
This page is about the oven cavity itself: single and double wall ovens, speed and steam ovens, and the baking compartment of a range. Every oven needs three things to work, a heat source, a temperature sensor and a control that switches power or gas on and off. Most oven repair jobs trace back to one of them.
Wall ovens built into tight stucco-home cabinetry can run their electronics warm, and repeated self-clean cycles push door locks, thermal fuses and control boards hard. Convection fans, hinges and door gaskets add their own share of calls. We work on electric, gas and dual-fuel ovens, from builder-grade single units to steam and speed ovens in custom kitchens, and we treat the oven half of a range the same way.
What owners notice before calling
Preheat that takes far longer than it used to, cookies burned on the bottom and pale on top, a broiler that glows but a bake cycle that stays cold, or a door that stays locked after self-clean. Some ovens show an error code and beep; others simply never get warm.
Gas ovens add their own warning: a faint smell of gas when the oven is called for heat but no flame lights.
Inside the oven cavity: frequent faults
Electric ovens burn out bake and broil elements, sometimes with a visible blister or split. Gas ovens wear out hot-surface igniters, which weaken until they no longer open the safety valve. Temperature sensors drift, door lock motors and switches fail, and convection fan motors seize.
Control boards and relays fail more often after self-clean, when the heat inside the cabinet is at its highest.
Wall oven and built-in brands
We work on built-in ovens from Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Miele, Gaggenau, Dacor and JennAir, along with mainstream wall ovens from GE, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Bosch, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire and Electrolux. European models from Smeg and Bertazzoni are on the list, and so are commercial Vulcan ovens.
How we narrow down an oven fault
The technician checks the supply (breaker and voltage for electric, gas and igniter current for gas), then measures the element or igniter, the sensor resistance and the board's output. On wall ovens this sometimes means sliding the unit forward out of its cutout, protecting the trim and cabinet face as it moves.
Once the failed part is confirmed, you approve one price for parts and labor. The oven is then run up to temperature and checked with a separate thermometer.
The TrueFix difference for ovens
We use parts specified by the oven's manufacturer as the default, and the repair is covered for 90 days on parts and 30 days on labor. Calls are answered 24/7 with no surcharge for after-hours booking, and same-day appointments happen when the schedule allows.
