What to know about Thor Kitchen ovens
Thor Kitchen ovens include single and double electric wall ovens with convection and the large oven cavities in Thor gas and dual-fuel ranges, many of which use a convection fan and, on gas models, an infrared or tube burner broiler. Common faults are bake elements or gas igniters that fail, convection fans that stop, temperature sensors that drift and door hinges that sag under the heavy pro-style door. We measure the actual oven temperature, test igniter current or element resistance, and check the fan and sensor. If a wall oven needs to come out, we protect the cabinetry and quote first.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Thor Kitchen. If this oven is still under its factory warranty, contact Thor Kitchen first.
Where Thor Kitchen ovens usually fail
- Gas oven igniter weakens and the oven heats slowly
- Convection fan motor fails and baking turns uneven
- Broiler will not light while the bake burner works
- Temperature sensor drifts and the oven runs hot
- Heavy oven door hinges wear and the door sags

Repairing Thor Kitchen ovens in the Las Vegas Valley
Thor ovens come in two forms. The brand sells electric wall ovens in single and double configurations with convection, and it builds large oven cavities into its 30-, 36- and 48-inch gas and dual-fuel ranges, many with a convection fan and, on gas models, an infrared broil burner in the ceiling.
Gas range ovens and electric wall ovens share almost no heating parts, so the first step is always confirming which type you have and how it is supplied. From there we put our own thermometer in the cavity, watch a full heat cycle, and test igniters, elements, fans and sensors individually before we quote.
Gas cavities, infrared broilers and electric wall ovens
In a Thor gas range, the bake burner sits under the oven floor and the broil burner is a ceramic infrared panel at the top. Each has its own igniter and a shared or separate safety valve, so it is common for baking to work while broiling does not, or the reverse.
Thor's electric wall ovens rely on a hidden bake element, a broil element and a rear convection element with a fan. The control switches them through relays, so a dead element and a failed relay can produce the same cold oven. A resistance test tells them apart.
Why a large oven behaves differently
A wide oven cavity holds a lot of air and heavy racks, so preheating takes longer than in a compact oven, especially in gas models that cycle the burner. A slow preheat on its own is not a fault. A preheat that has gotten noticeably slower over months usually is, and points to an igniter losing strength.
Large doors are heavy and put strain on the hinges and the gasket. A small gap at the top corner lets heat escape and pushes it toward the knobs and control panel, which can warm the controls on long bakes.
What you can safely check
Confirm that the burners on top light, which shows gas is reaching the range. On a wall oven, check the breaker and look for a lock or demo setting that stops heat. A standalone thermometer left on the middle rack for twenty minutes shows whether the cavity actually reaches the set temperature.
Do not remove the oven floor panel with the oven connected, and do not adjust the gas valve or orifices. If you smell gas when the oven tries to light, turn it off, ventilate and contact the gas utility.
Cleaning, care and repair value
Many Thor range ovens are manual-clean, so spills on the floor and spatter around the broiler need to be cleaned by hand. Harsh cleaners can damage the porcelain finish or the infrared broiler panel, so follow the manual's guidance.
Igniters, elements, fans, sensors, door hinges and gaskets are usually worth repairing. Controls and valves cost more but are still reasonable compared with replacing a pro-style range or a built-in wall oven, and we quote both possibilities clearly.

Still have questions?
We cover 15 ZIP codes in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise and southern Henderson.
Gas models usually have a separate broil burner and igniter. If baking works but broiling does not, that igniter, its valve circuit or the broil control is likely at fault. Check for a gas smell first, and shut off the gas if present. We test the broil circuit to find the failed part.
Verify with an oven thermometer over several cycles. If it is consistently hot, the temperature sensor or control may be off. Some models allow calibration. A large or variable error usually means a part needs testing and replacement, which we handle on site.
Run a convection mode and listen for the fan, and look through the window to see if it turns. A silent fan, grinding noise or very uneven baking suggests the motor or blade has a problem. We test the motor and its power supply before replacing it.
Yes. Pro-style doors are heavy, and hinges wear over time. A sagging door loses heat and can cause uneven cooking. We replace the hinges and check the gasket. Avoid leaning on the door or using it as a shelf for heavy items.
Check the manual first. Many manufacturers recommend avoiding harsh caustic cleaners on porcelain enamel and on infrared broiler panels. A paste of baking soda and water, left to soak and then wiped off, is gentler. Never spray cleaner onto the broiler or into the burner area, since residue can affect ignition and cause odors.
A faint smell during ignition can happen. A strong or lasting smell is not. It usually means the igniter is slow to reach temperature, letting gas build before it lights. That can also cause a small whoosh when the burner catches. Stop using the oven and have the igniter and valve tested.
Most ovens lose the clock and some settings when power is interrupted. Reset the clock and check that the oven heats normally. If the display flickers, resets during cooking or will not respond, a power supply or control issue may need diagnosis.
Racks can stick when the porcelain sides or the rack edges are dirty or slightly warped from heat. Clean the rack edges and supports. Some models use telescoping racks that can bind if debris gets into the slides. Damaged racks can be replaced.
Pro-style doors do get warm, but a door glass or handle too hot to touch is a warning. A worn gasket, a door that no longer closes square, or a missing inner glass panel can let heat escape. Hot spots near the top corner usually point to the hinge or gasket. We check the door fit and replace worn parts before the heat damages the controls.
