How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Thermador ovens
Thermador ovens include Masterpiece and Professional series wall ovens in single, double and combination configurations, plus steam and convection ovens and speed ovens. Many have true convection with a third element around the fan. Common faults involve the convection fan or element, temperature sensors, door hinges on heavy doors, lock mechanisms after self-clean, and the cooling fan that protects the controls. Steam ovens also need descaling, and valley hard water speeds up scale. We test elements, sensors, fans and locks, and read fault codes before recommending a repair.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Thermador. If this oven is still under its factory warranty, contact Thermador first.
Where Thermador ovens usually fail
- Convection element or fan failure causing uneven baking
- Cooling fan noise or failure in a wall oven installation
- Door lock not releasing after a self-clean cycle
- Steam oven scale buildup triggering water system errors
- Heavy oven door hinges wearing and closing unevenly

Repairing Thermador ovens in the Las Vegas Valley
Thermador wall ovens come in the Masterpiece and Professional series, as single and double ovens, combination units with a steam or speed oven on top, and standalone steam convection ovens. Most use true convection, with a third element wrapped around the rear fan, and many have SoftClose hinges that slow the heavy door as it shuts.
These ovens are a long-term part of the kitchen, built into cabinetry that was designed around their dimensions. That makes diagnosis worth doing carefully. A Thermador that bakes unevenly, shuts off mid-cycle or will not unlock after cleaning usually has one identifiable failure, and we want to find that one part rather than replace several.
True convection and what goes wrong with it
In true convection, the element around the rear fan heats the air directly and the fan spreads it through the cavity. If the element fails, the fan still blows but moves cooler air, so food takes longer and browns unevenly. If the fan motor fails, the element can overheat and trip a limit.
We run convection, bake and broil separately and measure cavity temperature during each, which separates element faults from fan, sensor or relay faults quickly.
Steam ovens and valley water
Thermador steam ovens draw water from a removable tank and boil it in a steam generator. Minerals from hard tap water build up in that generator and the lines, and the oven responds by asking for descaling sooner or showing water system errors.
Using filtered or lower-mineral water in the tank, as the manual allows, and running the descale program on schedule prevents many of these calls. Once scale has damaged the pump or generator, those parts need replacing.
Checks owners can make
Confirm the oven is not in Sabbath mode, a demo mode or a control lock, which can make it look dead. On a double oven, try both cavities to see whether the fault is shared. On a steam model, empty and refill the tank and run a descale cycle if prompted. Note any error text and when it appears.
Do not remove the oven from the cabinet or the control panel cover. A wall oven is heavy, and the wiring box behind it needs the power off at the breaker before anyone touches it.
Doors, locks and cooling
Large Thermador doors are heavy, and the hinges carry that weight every day. Worn hinges let the door close unevenly or leak heat at the top. The motorized lock used for self-clean can stick after a long cleaning cycle. A cooling fan above the cavity keeps the controls safe; when it slows, the oven may shut off during long bakes.
These parts are replaced from the front or with the oven slid partway out, with the cabinet face protected.
Is a Thermador wall oven worth repairing?
Nearly always, for elements, sensors, fans, hinges, locks and water system parts. Control boards cost more but are still worth it on most units when the oven is otherwise in good condition. We check parts availability for your model before quoting.

True convection adds a heating element around the rear fan so heated air circulates evenly. If the element fails, convection modes heat slowly and unevenly, though bake may still work. If the fan fails, you may hear a hum or nothing at all. Both parts can be tested and replaced individually.
The oven tracks steam use and water hardness, and hard tap water here leaves minerals that build up quickly. Running the descaling program when prompted protects the steam generator and pump. Skipping it can lead to errors and costly repairs. Check that the water hardness setting matches your water.
Usually. Double wall ovens are built into cabinetry, and a replacement must match the cutout. Most faults involve a single part such as an element, sensor, fan or lock. We diagnose which cavity and which part has failed, then give one price for the complete repair before any work.
Place an oven thermometer in the center of the middle rack, preheat to a set temperature and check it after twenty minutes. Readings will swing a little as the oven cycles. If the average is consistently far off, the temperature sensor or its wiring may be at fault. Many models also allow a calibration offset.
The manual lists the water types your model accepts. Valley tap water is hard, so it scales the steam generator faster and triggers descaling requests sooner. Many owners use filtered water for the tank. Avoid distilled water if the manual says not to, because some steam systems need a minimum mineral level to sense water properly.
Many Thermador ovens use SoftClose hinges that damp the door as it shuts. That is intended. If the door now closes too fast, stops partway or leaves a gap at the top, the hinges may be worn or damaged. Replacing them in pairs keeps the door square and the seal even.
Turning the breaker off for a minute can clear a one-time fault, and it is a reasonable first step. If the code returns, write it down along with when it appears, then stop using that function. Repeated resets can mask a cooling fan or sensor problem that causes more damage.
Many element, sensor and hinge repairs take a single visit once the part is available. Repairs that require sliding the oven out or replacing a control board take longer. We give you the expected time after diagnosis and before any work starts.
A speed oven combines microwave and convection heating in one cavity. We test both systems at the same visit, including the high-voltage microwave parts, which require proper discharge before handling. You receive one price for whatever the speed oven needs.
