What to know about Avanti ovens

Avanti ovens are the oven cavities of its apartment-size 20 and 24 inch gas and electric ranges, plus a few compact wall ovens. They are simpler than full-size ovens, which usually makes diagnosis quick. On electric models, a bake or broil element burning out or a selector switch failing are the usual faults. Gas models often use a glow bar igniter that weakens with age, so the oven lights late or not at all, or a pilot and thermocouple setup on older or basic units. We test the igniter, elements, thermostat and safety valve and check for even heat.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Avanti. If this oven is still under its factory warranty, contact Avanti first.

Where Avanti ovens usually fail

  • Gas oven igniter glowing weakly so the burner never lights
  • Electric bake element burned out with a visible break
  • Oven thermostat letting temperatures swing widely
  • Door spring broken so the door drops open
  • Small oven heating unevenly because of rack placement or venting

Repairing Avanti ovens in the Las Vegas Valley

Avanti ovens are mostly found inside its 20-inch and 24-inch ranges, plus a few compact wall ovens installed in kitchenettes and casitas. These are simple ovens with mechanical or basic electronic controls, which is good news: the list of parts that can fail is short, and most of them are inexpensive.

The challenge is the small cavity. A compact oven reacts quickly to rack position, pan size and door seal problems, so a baking complaint is not always a broken part. We separate design limits from real faults before recommending a repair, and we test with a thermometer in the cavity rather than relying on the dial.

Compact oven design and its limits

In a small oven, the bake burner or element sits close to the food. Large sheet pans can block airflow around the edges, causing hot spots and burned bottoms. Using smaller pans and the middle rack often improves results noticeably.

Mechanical thermostats on basic models use a sensing bulb in the cavity. If that bulb is knocked out of its clips or touches the oven wall, the oven can run hotter or cooler than the dial setting.

What the oven is telling you

A gas oven where you can hear the igniter click or see it glow, but the burner never lights, often has a weak igniter or a valve problem. If you smell gas without ignition, stop and turn the oven off.

An electric oven that heats only from the top usually has a failed bake element. If neither element heats, the thermostat, selector switch or wiring is more likely at fault.

Owner checks and safety

Make sure the clock or timer is not set to a delayed mode, since some ovens will not heat until the timer is cleared. Check that the oven racks are not touching the sensing bulb, and look at the door gasket for gaps.

Turn off gas at the shutoff and unplug or switch off the breaker before pulling the range out. Do not try to adjust a gas valve or orifice yourself.

Is the repair worth it?

Igniters, elements, thermostats and door springs are worth replacing on most Avanti ovens. If several parts have failed at once on an older range, a new compact range may be more cost-effective.

Small ranges can also be hard to replace with an exact fit in a tight kitchen. We take that into account when comparing repair and replacement costs.

Avanti Oven Repair Questions

Still have questions?

We cover 15 ZIP codes in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise and southern Henderson.

Most Avanti gas ovens use a glow bar igniter. As it ages, it still glows but draws less current, so the safety valve opens late or not at all. You may notice gas odor briefly before lighting. If the oven takes more than a minute or so to light, have the igniter tested before it fails completely.

For many models, yes, though some older units have limited parts. Igniters, elements and thermostats are often available or have compatible equivalents. We look up your exact model number before quoting, and if a part is no longer made, we will tell you before any work begins.

Not necessarily. In a small oven, the bottom element or burner is close to the lower rack. Bake on the middle rack, use lighter-colored pans, and avoid foil on the oven floor. If burning is severe with those changes, the thermostat may be running hot and can be tested.

Check the breaker first, since apartment ranges often share circuits that trip. If the cooktop works but the oven does not, the bake element, selector switch or thermostat is the likely cause. Look at the element for blistering or breaks. With the range unplugged, a technician can test each part safely.

In a compact oven, the bake burner or element is close to the bottom rack, and large or dark pans absorb heat quickly. Move the rack up a position and use a lighter pan. If the oven still runs hotter than the setting, the thermostat or sensing bulb may need testing.

Some older basic models with standing pilots can be relit following the instructions on the oven, while models with electronic ignition should not be lit with a match. The lighting steps are printed in the manual and often on a label inside the broiler or storage drawer. When in doubt, turn off the gas and arrange for service rather than experimenting.

Yes. Door springs or hinges can wear or break, especially on frequently used compact ranges. Replacing them restores a proper seal, which also helps the oven heat evenly and keeps heat away from the knobs above. We check the door alignment and gasket at the same time, since a door that hung open for weeks often stretches the gasket too.

Many Avanti ovens do not have self-clean features, especially compact and basic models. Clean them by hand with a mild oven cleaner, keeping it away from the thermostat bulb, the igniter and any gas parts. Wipe spills once the oven cools, before they bake on. Check the manual for cleaning guidance specific to your model.

A shorted bake or broil element, damaged wiring or a faulty thermostat can trip a breaker. Moisture in an element after a spill can also cause it. Leave the breaker off and arrange for testing rather than resetting it repeatedly, because each reset sends current through the same fault.
