How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Maytag ovens
Maytag ovens come mostly as part of freestanding and slide-in ranges, along with a smaller line of single and double wall ovens, in gas and electric versions. Gas models often slow down with a weak bake igniter that heats but no longer draws enough current to open the valve. Electric models usually need a bake or broil element, a temperature sensor, or a relay on the control board. Convection models add a fan motor. On a visit we measure actual cavity temperature, test the igniter current or element resistance, and check the sensor before quoting the repair.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Maytag. If this oven is still under its factory warranty, contact Maytag first.

Repairing Maytag ovens in the Las Vegas Valley
Maytag ovens show up in two forms: inside freestanding and slide-in ranges, and as single or double wall ovens built into cabinetry. Both use the same small group of parts to make heat (a bake igniter or element, a broil element or burner, a temperature sensor and a control board), so diagnosis follows a clear path.
This page is about the oven cavity itself. The most useful thing an owner can tell us is how the oven behaves: does it never light, light late, overshoot, or bake unevenly? Each of those points to a different part, and that saves time on the visit. If an error message appears on the display, write it down or take a photo before you reset anything.
Gas and electric Maytag ovens fail differently
In a gas Maytag oven, the hot-surface igniter must pull enough current to open the safety valve. As it ages, it glows but draws less, so the oven waits longer to light or never lights at all. That looks like a valve problem but rarely is.
Electric ovens usually lose a bake or broil element, which can fail silently under a hidden floor panel. Convection models add a rear fan and its own element, and a slow or noisy fan changes baking results long before it stops.
Simple checks owners can make
Put an oven thermometer on the center rack and compare it to the set temperature after twenty minutes. Note whether the broiler works when bake does not. On a gas oven, listen and watch through the window: a glowing igniter with no flame after a couple of minutes is a strong clue.
Do not force a locked door after self-clean. Let the oven cool fully, and if the lock still will not release, it needs a technician.
Wall ovens and access
Maytag wall ovens slide out of the cabinet on their rails once the mounting screws are removed. Many sensor and element repairs are done from inside the cavity, but board, fan and wiring repairs may need the oven pulled forward. Double ovens are heavy, so we bring help when needed and protect the cabinet face.
How we decide what to replace
We measure igniter current, element resistance and sensor readings at temperature rather than replacing parts in sequence. Then you get one price for parts and labor. Igniters, elements and sensors are almost always worth replacing. A failed control on an older wall oven may still be worth it, since replacing a built-in oven often means cabinet work too.

The most common cause is a weak hot-surface igniter. The igniter must reach a certain current draw before the safety valve opens, and as it ages it glows but falls short, so lighting takes longer and eventually stops. You might smell a little gas before ignition. Igniters are a routine replacement, but if you smell strong gas, shut the supply off and call before using it again.
Many Maytag ovens allow a small temperature offset through the control settings, which is described in the owner's manual. That works when the oven is only a little off. If the gap is large, or it changes from day to day, the temperature sensor or a control relay is likely at fault. We test the sensor's resistance at room temperature to confirm before replacing anything.
Give it time to cool fully, which can take more than an hour. If the lock still holds, try turning the breaker off for a minute to reset the control. A lock that will not release after that often has a failed latch motor or switch. Self-clean heat is also hard on thermal fuses and boards, so we check those components during the same visit.
Elements, igniters, sensors, door hinges and latch assemblies are typically reasonable repairs relative to replacing the range or wall oven. Control boards cost more but are often still sensible on a newer unit. We diagnose first and quote one price for parts and labor, so the decision is based on the actual fault instead of a guess.
The lamp runs on its own circuit, so a lit oven with no heat narrows things to the heat path: the igniter or valve on gas, or the element, relay or supply on electric. On electric models, a lost leg of 240-volt power can do this too. We measure each part to confirm which one stopped.
A faint whiff at ignition can happen on gas ovens, especially if lighting is delayed by a weak igniter, since a little gas flows before the flame catches. A strong or lingering smell is different. Turn the oven off, ventilate, and do not use it until the igniter and valve are checked.
It is safe when the oven is healthy, but the high heat stresses the door lock, the control and the thermal fuse. On older ovens, failures often show up right after a clean. Wiping spills regularly and using self-clean sparingly reduces that risk.
Often, yes. Elements, sensors, light bulbs and many igniters come out from inside the cavity. If the fault is in the control board, cooling fan or wiring behind the oven, we pull it forward on its rails. We will tell you before we start if removal is needed.
The model number from the label inside the door frame or drawer area, whether it is gas or electric, and exactly what the oven does: no heat, slow heat, uneven baking, error message, or a locked door. That lets us bring the most likely parts on the first visit.
