What to know about GE Appliances ovens

GE ovens include freestanding range ovens and single or double wall ovens across the Profile, Café and Monogram lines. Common failures are a bake or broil element that has burned open, a gas igniter too weak to open the safety valve, a temperature sensor drifting out of range, and control boards that display F-series fault codes. Self-clean cycles can also overheat door lock motors. We read the fault history, measure sensor resistance and test elements or igniters before quoting. Wall oven work sometimes means sliding the unit out of the cabinet, which we handle with care.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with GE Appliances. If this oven is still under its factory warranty, contact GE Appliances first.

Where GE Appliances ovens usually fail

  • Oven displays an F-series fault code and stops heating
  • Bake element burns through and leaves a visible break
  • Gas igniter glows but the burner never lights
  • Temperature sensor drift makes baking run hot or cool
  • Door lock stays engaged after a self-clean cycle ends

GE Appliances Oven · Las Vegas Valley

Repairing GE Appliances ovens in the Las Vegas Valley

GE ovens heat in one of two ways. Electric ovens use bake and broil elements, often with a convection element behind a rear fan. Gas ovens use a hot surface igniter that must draw enough current to open the gas safety valve. Both rely on a temperature sensor and a control board to decide when to heat.

That shared design means many different complaints, from slow preheat to burned cookies, come down to a short list of parts. Our job is to find which one, and to confirm it with a measurement rather than a guess. Replacing a control board when the real fault was a ten-minute sensor swap is the most common and most expensive mistake in oven repair.

Wall ovens across the GE lines

GE builds wall ovens under the GE, Profile, Café and Monogram names, including double ovens and combination units with a microwave on top. Higher-end models add convection, steam or air fry modes and Wi-Fi controls, which bring extra fans and boards.

Wall ovens live in a closed cabinet, so the cooling fan that protects the electronics matters. When it slows, controls and wiring run hotter than they should.

Owner checks before booking

Confirm the oven is not in a Sabbath mode, a delay start or a locked control setting, all of which can make a working oven look dead. For temperature questions, use an oven thermometer in the center rack after a full preheat.

On a gas oven, if you smell gas and the burner is not lighting, switch it off and stop retrying. Leave the self-clean lock alone if it will not release; forcing the door can bend the latch.

What a GE oven visit looks like

We read any stored fault information, measure sensor resistance at room temperature, and check current draw on gas igniters. Elements get an ohm test and a visual check for blistering.

If a wall oven must slide forward, we support it properly and pad the trim. Igniters, sensors and elements are usually on hand. Some control boards and Café trim pieces need to be ordered.

When an oven repair is not worth it

Most GE oven repairs are worth doing, because the cavity and insulation rarely wear out. The exceptions are older ovens with a failed board that is no longer made, or units where heat has damaged wiring throughout.

With built-in wall ovens, cutout size matters too. Replacing one with a model that fits the existing opening is not always simple, which often tips the decision toward repair.

GE Appliances Oven Repair Questions

Straight answers to what people ask before booking. If your question isn't here, send it with your booking request and we'll answer it.

Still have questions?

We cover 15 ZIP codes in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise and southern Henderson.

GE controls use codes beginning with F to flag faults such as an open or shorted temperature sensor, a runaway temperature or a key panel problem. Write down the full code, then turn the breaker off for a minute and restore power. If the code returns, book a diagnosis rather than continuing to use the oven.

Let the oven cool completely, which can take an hour or more. If the lock still won't release, a reset at the breaker sometimes clears it. A door that stays locked after cooling usually means a failed lock motor, switch or control, and the oven should be checked before you use it again.

Place an oven thermometer in the center and preheat to 350°F, then check readings over 20 minutes. Some swing is normal. A consistent large offset points to a sensor or control fault. Many GE ovens also allow a small user temperature adjustment in the settings menu for minor drift.

No. Turn the oven off and do not keep trying to light it. A weak igniter can let some gas flow without ignition. Ventilate the kitchen, and if the smell is strong or does not fade, shut off the gas supply and leave the home before calling the gas utility. Then book a repair.

Long preheat on an electric GE oven often means a weak bake element or a convection element that is no longer helping. On gas ovens, a tired igniter can take a long time to open the valve. Some convection preheat modes also run slower by design. If it has slowed noticeably compared to how it used to behave, testing the heating part is the next step.

Self-clean is very hot, and it stresses door locks, fuses, sensors and the control on any brand. Many owners use it rarely and wipe the oven by hand in between. If your oven offers a steam clean option, that is gentler for light messes. Avoid running self-clean right before a holiday meal in case a part fails.

A dark display with a working oven can point to a failed display board, a loose ribbon connector or a power supply issue on the control. On wall ovens, heat from a weak cooling fan can contribute. We test the supply voltage and connections before recommending a new board, since not every dark display needs one.

Yes, on most models. Turn off the oven and let it cool fully, then remove the glass cover and replace the bulb with an appliance bulb of the correct type. Some GE wall ovens use halogen bulbs that should not be touched with bare fingers. If the new bulb does not light, the socket or control may need service.

It can. If the lower oven fails, it may be possible to work from the front, but some repairs require sliding the whole unit out to reach wiring at the back. Double ovens are heavy, so we bring the right help and plan for it. Tell us which cavity has the problem when you book.
