How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Roper stoves
Roper stoves are entry-level freestanding units with coil burners or simple gas burners on top and a basic oven below, a familiar fixture in apartments, rentals and older ranch homes around the valley. Repairs are generally simple: replacing a coil element, receptacle or infinite switch, fixing a broken oven door hinge or replacing a gas igniter. Rental turnover often reveals worn knobs, missing drip pans and loose wiring connections. We test burners and oven circuits, check the power cord and terminal block, and give one price for the whole job.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Roper. If this stove is still under its factory warranty, contact Roper first.

Repairing Roper stoves in the Las Vegas Valley
Many Roper stoves in the valley have been in service for years, often in rental units that change tenants regularly. They are simple machines: coil or gas burners on a lift-up top, a basic oven below and mechanical knobs. Some older gas models still use standing pilots instead of spark ignition, which brings its own set of issues.
The burner top takes the most wear: knobs crack, drip bowls corrode, sockets loosen and gas burners clog. The visit starts on the top with burners, switches or pilots, then moves to the cord and the terminal block behind the range, and you get a single figure for the repair. For landlords, we can note anything else that needs attention at the same visit.
Standing pilots on older gas Ropers
An older gas Roper stove may have a small pilot flame that stays lit under the top and lights the burners through flash tubes. When a pilot goes out, the burners on that side will not light. Pilots can go out from drafts, a clogged orifice or a low flame setting. Cleaning and adjusting the pilot usually fixes it.
If a burner does not light within a few seconds, turn it off and wait for gas to clear before trying again.
Unit turnover and the stove
Between tenants, a quick look at the stove can prevent calls later. Missing or cracked knobs, burned drip bowls, loose elements, a door that does not close and a missing anti-tip bracket are common findings. Each is inexpensive to fix, and catching them together saves separate visits.
Safe checks before booking
On electric models, check the breaker, and with the stove off and cool, make sure elements are fully seated. On gas models, confirm the gas supply is on and the pilots, if present, are lit. Make sure the stove sits level and does not tip when the oven door is pressed down.
Never relight a pilot if you smell gas. Close the supply, ventilate and call for service.
When to keep an older Roper stove
Most stove-top repairs on a Roper cost little and make sense even on an older unit, especially in a rental where a basic stove is all that is needed. When the cooktop is rusted through, wiring is heat-damaged or the oven and top both need major parts, replacement is usually more sensible. We will explain the tradeoff.

Not necessarily. Check the breaker first. If power is on at the outlet, a burned terminal block where the power cord connects is a common cause on electric stoves. Turn off the breaker before looking behind the stove. It's a straightforward repair once confirmed.
Test each burner on high and low, run the oven to temperature, and check knobs, drip pans and the door seal. Look for scorch marks on receptacles. Catching worn parts at turnover avoids tenant calls later. We can inspect and repair several units in one visit.
If the knob spins without effect, it may be stripped or cracked where it meets the switch stem. Replacing the knob is simple. If the stem itself turns but the burner doesn't heat, the switch or element is likely at fault and should be tested.
Moving a gas stove means disconnecting and reconnecting a gas line, and conversions between natural gas and propane require specific parts. Both should be done by a qualified professional. Shut off the gas supply first, and have the connection leak tested after any move.
First make sure there is no gas smell. Lift the top and find the pilot near the center between the burners. Hold a long lighter to the pilot opening until it lights. If it will not stay lit or goes out often, it may need cleaning or adjustment. If you smell gas at any point, stop and call for service.
If several are cracked or worn, replacing them together keeps them matching and avoids repeat visits. Make sure the replacement knobs fit your model, since the shaft shape varies. A knob that spins without turning the burner may have a stripped insert or the switch shaft may be damaged.
Check that each burner heats or lights properly, that the oven reaches temperature and that the door closes and seals. Look for burned drip bowls, loose elements, cracked knobs and a missing anti-tip bracket. On gas stoves, check for proper flames and no gas smell. Fixing small issues before move-in prevents many service calls.
A light smell from food or grease on the element or drip bowl is common and usually burns off. A sharp electrical smell, smoke from under the top or a sizzling sound may mean a burned receptacle or wiring. Turn off the breaker and have it inspected before using it again.
Many Roper stoves have a top that lifts and props open with a support rod, which makes cleaning under it easier. Make sure the stove is off and cool, and that the rod is secure before reaching underneath. Do not lift a gas stove top while burners or pilots are lit.
