How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Kenmore stoves
A Kenmore stove in many Las Vegas rentals and older ranch homes is a freestanding gas or coil-electric unit, often Frigidaire-built, that has been in service a long time. The cooktop surface usually needs attention first: coil receptacles and terminals that burn, infinite switches that fail, gas burners that stop sparking, and burner valves that stick. Drip pans corrode and lift, and knobs wear out. Before any work we turn off power or gas, then test receptacles, switches, igniters and valves, check the gas connector, and confirm the anti-tip bracket is installed before giving a price.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Kenmore. If this stove is still under its factory warranty, contact Kenmore first.
Where Kenmore stoves usually fail
- Coil burner receptacle scorched with loose, burned terminals
- Gas burner valve stiff and hard to turn
- Surface spark igniter cracked and no longer sparking
- Coil burner heats intermittently when gently moved
- Burner control knob broken or shaft stripped

Repairing Kenmore stoves in the Las Vegas Valley
Many Kenmore stoves in the valley are older freestanding models, often Frigidaire or Whirlpool-built, with coil burners or simple gas burners on top. These are durable designs, but the cooking surface takes the most abuse. Receptacles scorch, switches wear, gas valves stiffen and igniters crack. Most of the repairs are on the top, not in the oven or controls.
We check the supply and the wiring under the lift-up top, test each burner and switch, and give one price before any repair. In rentals, we can also note worn knobs, rusted drip pans and missing anti-tip brackets at the same time, which helps owners and property managers handle turnover work in a single visit.
Coil burners and their connections
On a coil-top Kenmore, each burner plugs into a receptacle. Over years of heating and cooling, the terminals loosen and arc, which burns the receptacle and the burner terminals. A burner that works only when jiggled is a classic sign. Replacing both the burner and the receptacle together prevents the new burner from failing quickly.
Infinite switches control each burner and can fail stuck on, stuck off or with no control over the heat.
Gas stove tops
Older gas Kenmore stoves may have standing pilots or spark ignition. A pilot that goes out often needs cleaning or adjustment. Spark models need a working switch, module and igniter. Valves can stiffen with age, and a stiff valve should not be forced. Burner caps and heads that are cracked or rusted affect the flame and are worth replacing.
What to check at home
On a coil stove, with the burner off and cool, check whether it is fully plugged in and sitting flat. Replace badly corroded drip pans, which can affect contact. On a gas stove, clean the burner ports and dry the burner area.
Turn off the breaker before removing coil burners or looking at receptacles. If you smell gas, close the gas supply, ventilate and do not light anything.
Repair value on an older Kenmore stove
Most stove-top repairs are inexpensive and quick. Burners, receptacles, switches and igniters are usually worth replacing even on an older stove, especially if the oven works well. When the stove has rusted burner boxes, a cracked top or multiple failing systems, replacement may be the better choice, and we will discuss it with you.

That points to a poor connection at the receptacle, the socket the coil plugs into. Heat and arcing burn the terminals over time, and a loose connection makes it worse. Turn off the breaker before inspecting. Replacing the receptacle and any burned wiring usually fixes it, and the coil is often replaced too if its terminals are pitted.
A stiff valve is often caused by grease and spills working into the valve stem. Do not force it or spray lubricant into it, since that can damage seals. A sticky valve may not close fully, which is a safety concern. Turn off the gas supply if you suspect a leak. A technician can clean or replace the valve and leak-test it.
Basic surface parts such as receptacles, switches, igniters and knobs are inexpensive and usually worth repairing, even on an older stove. If the oven control and multiple components are failing at once, replacing the stove may make more sense. We diagnose first and give you one price, so you can make an informed choice.
Rental stoves tend to have more wear on knobs, drip pans, and receptacles. A missing anti-tip bracket is also common. We check for that on every visit. If a tenant reports a gas smell, they should leave and call the gas company. For other issues, providing the model number speeds up the repair.
Sparking at the plug-in point usually means the receptacle or burner terminals are burned or loose. That can cause overheating and further damage. Turn off the breaker and stop using that burner. Replacing the receptacle and the burner together is the usual fix, and we check the wiring connection at the same time.
On older Kenmore stoves with standing pilots, a pilot that keeps going out often has a dirty orifice, a draft or a low flame setting. Cleaning and adjustment usually fix it. If you smell gas when the pilot is out, close the supply and ventilate before relighting. If it continues, have the pilot and gas supply checked.
Drip pans come in two sizes for coil stoves, and the shape of the cutout must match the burner's terminal side. Using the wrong size can leave the burner unsteady or let spills reach the wiring. Matching your model number or measuring the old pan helps. Badly rusted pans should be replaced, since they can affect burner contact.
Usually, yes. When a burner heats at full power regardless of the knob position, the infinite switch has typically failed. A wiring short is less common. Stop using that burner, since it can overheat cookware. Replacing the switch is a routine repair, and we check the wiring at the same time.
With normal use, coil burners often last many years. Heavy daily use, spills and loose connections shorten their life. A burner that blisters, bulges or glows unevenly is wearing out. Replacing worn burners with the correct part and checking the receptacle helps the new burner last.
