How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about AGA stoves
Most people who call about an AGA stove mean the traditional heat-storage cooker: a cast-iron body that stays on continuously, fueled by gas or electricity, with programmable electric models that can be turned down or off. Gas models burn steadily and vent through a flue, so the burner, flame supervision device, thermostat and flue need periodic inspection. In a Las Vegas kitchen in summer, a cooker that stays on all the time adds heat that the air conditioning has to remove, which is one reason some owners choose programmable models. We service burners, thermostats, elements and controls.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with AGA. If this stove is still under its factory warranty, contact AGA first.

Repairing AGA stoves in the Las Vegas Valley
When people say AGA stove, they usually mean the whole traditional cooker: the enameled cast-iron body with its ovens, hotplates and insulated lids, often decades old and set into the kitchen as a centerpiece. Older units are gas-fired and stay on around the clock. Newer programmable electric models, such as AGA Total Control, can be switched on and off.
This page covers that freestanding cooker as a working appliance: its heat source, controls and the stored heat that runs everything. Oven-only and hotplate-only problems have their own pages, but most AGA stove calls are about the heart of the cooker, and that is where we start. Knowing the fuel and the age of the cooker shapes the whole visit.
The heat source at the center of the cooker
A gas AGA has a burner under an insulated cover, a flame supervision device that shuts the gas off if the flame fails, a thermostat and a flue that carries exhaust out of the house. Over time, the burner can soot up, the flame supervision device can weaken and the flue can collect debris. Each shows up as unsteady heat, sooting or a burner that goes out.
Electric heat-storage AGAs use elements and thermostats or an electronic control. Faults there are electrical, and testing is done with a meter rather than a combustion analyzer.
Living with an always-on cooker in the desert
A traditional AGA that runs continuously radiates heat into the kitchen all year. In a hot summer, that heat adds load to the air conditioning. Programmable models address this by letting owners turn ovens and hotplates off when not needed.
If you have a continuous gas AGA, keeping lids closed and doors shut limits the heat it gives off.
Signs that need prompt attention
Soot on the top plate or around the burner door, a smell of combustion in the kitchen, or a burner that keeps going out all point to combustion or flue problems. Those need a technician before the cooker keeps running. Carbon monoxide alarms in the kitchen are strongly recommended with any gas cooker.
Turn off the gas supply if you smell gas, ventilate the room and call the gas utility.
How an AGA stove service visit runs
Gas models generally need to be turned down and cooled before burner work, so we plan the visit with you in advance. We inspect and clean the burner, check the flame supervision device and thermostat, examine the flue and adjust combustion. On electric models we test elements, thermostats and the control.
Parts come from specialist suppliers, and we confirm availability and give one price before work. The cooker then needs time to come back to full heat.

Gas AGAs that burn continuously should be inspected regularly, often yearly, to check the burner, flame, flue and safety devices. A properly adjusted burner keeps the cooker at the right temperature and burning cleanly. If you notice soot, odors or uneven heat, book service sooner, and keep a carbon monoxide alarm working nearby.
It depends on the model. Traditional always-on models are designed to run continuously, and turning them off means a long reheat. Programmable electric models can be turned down or off at times. Some owners run the cooker less in the hottest months. We can explain what your specific model allows.
If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside. If there is no gas smell, do not repeatedly relight it. The flame supervision device, burner or gas supply may be at fault, and a technician should inspect it. The cooker will cool slowly because of the stored heat.
Traditional AGAs are extremely heavy, assembled from cast-iron sections, and are not moved for routine service. Most work is done in place by removing panels and lids. Relocating a cooker is a separate, specialist job. We plan repairs around the cooker staying where it is.
A gas or electric heat-storage AGA can take many hours to reach full temperature after being turned off, because the cast-iron mass stores heat slowly. Plan around that and avoid big cooking until the heat indicator shows normal. Programmable models heat individual ovens faster.
As with any gas appliance, yes, if the burner is dirty or the flue is blocked. Regular service, a clear flue and a carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen are sensible precautions. Soot, a combustion smell or a burner that keeps going out should be checked promptly.
AGA has offered conversion options for some traditional models, replacing the gas burner with electric elements and controls. Whether it works for yours depends on the model and age. We can look at the cooker and advise on what is possible before you decide.
A low reading means the stored heat has dropped. Heavy cooking, lids left open or doors not sealing can cause it. If it stays low after the cooker has had time to recover, the heat source, thermostat or flue may need attention.
Many common parts, such as thermostats, seals and burner components, are available through specialist suppliers here. Others, especially for older or less common models, need ordering from overseas stock, and timing varies. We confirm the exact model and check availability before quoting so you know what to expect.
