Heat-storage ovens depend on the overall heat level, so a cooler roasting oven may come from a thermostat fault, a burner or element delivering less heat, worn door seals or hotplate lids left open. We measure temperatures across the cooker and test the heat source and thermostat before quoting.
Slow boiling usually means the cooker's stored heat is lower than normal or is escaping. The original heat-storage design was invented in the 1920s by Swedish engineer Gustaf Dalén, and its principle has barely changed: a heavy cast-iron body holds heat, with ovens set at fixed temperatures and insulated hotplates under heavy lids. AGA also sells conventional range cookers that look the part but cook like a standard range.

On a heat-storage cooker, keep hotplate lids closed when not cooking; leaving them up drains stored heat and makes ovens run cool. Check the oven door seals for gaps and the lid hinges for wear.
If a gas AGA goes out, do not try to relight it repeatedly. A flame supervision device shuts off gas when it senses no flame, and repeated failures need diagnosis. Any sooting, odor or smell of gas means turning the supply off and getting the burner inspected.
