What to know about ASKO washers

ASKO washers are compact 24-inch front-loaders with stainless drums and high spin speeds, often stacked with a matching dryer in a closet or installed under a counter. Like most European washers, they heat water internally with an element, so valley hard water leaves scale on the heater and in the tub. The drain filter at the lower front catches small items and lint and needs regular cleaning. Other common repairs include door locks, drum bearings and the motor. A visit includes clearing the drain filter, testing the heater, pump and lock, and checking that the stacking hardware is secure.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with ASKO. If this washer is still under its factory warranty, contact ASKO first.

Where ASKO washers usually fail

  • Drain filter blocked so the washer stops with water inside
  • Heating element scaled over and wash water stays cold
  • Door lock failing so the cycle will not start
  • Drum bearing rumbling loudly during high-speed spin
  • Stacked pair vibrating against the closet walls

ASKO Washer · Las Vegas Valley

Repairing ASKO washers in the Las Vegas Valley

An ASKO washer is a compact European front-loader: 24 inches wide, heavily built with stainless steel, and designed to spin hard and heat its own water. Owners usually pick one for a tight space, such as a hallway closet in a condo near UNLV or a stacked pair in a newer townhome. That placement shapes almost every repair.

Access is the first thing we plan. A stacked ASKO may need the dryer lifted off, and an under-counter unit has to slide out without scratching cabinetry. Once the washer is reachable, we read the fault indication, run the drain, fill, heat and spin functions, and test the part involved before quoting.

Internal heating and hard valley water

Like most European washers, an ASKO typically fills from the cold line and heats water with an element in the bottom of the tub. Valley water leaves calcium on that element over time. A crusted element heats slowly, can trip a heating fault, and eventually burns out.

Detergent dosing matters too. Too much detergent in a low-water machine leaves residue that traps lint and scale. We check the element, the temperature sensor and the tub sump, and talk through dosing and periodic hot cleaning cycles.

Draining and the front filter

ASKO washers have a drain filter behind a small door at the lower front. Coins, hair ties, lint and small socks collect there. When it clogs, the washer stops with water in the drum and may show a drain warning.

Clearing the filter is an owner task, but a pump that hums without moving water, or a drain hose that is kinked behind a stacked pair, needs a closer look.

Door locks, bearings and high spin speed

The door lock must confirm the door is closed and locked before the washer fills or spins. A failing lock can stop the cycle at the start or keep the door locked afterward.

High spin speeds put heavy loads on the drum bearings and suspension. A rumbling or grinding sound during spin often means bearings. On a stacked pair, worn shock absorbers can make the whole stack shake.

Owner checks before booking

Clean the drain filter with towels and a shallow pan ready, check the inlet hose and faucet, and make sure shipping bolts were removed on a newly installed machine. Level the feet if the washer walks.

Unplug the washer before opening any panel. Do not force the door open if it is locked with water inside. Wait for the washer to drain or call for help.

Is an ASKO washer worth repairing?

ASKO washers are built to last, and replacement options for tight spaces can be limited. Drain pumps, door locks, heating elements and sensors are usually worth repairing. Bearing repairs are bigger jobs, but still worth pricing on a machine in good overall condition.

ASKO Washer Repair Questions

Still have questions?

We cover 15 ZIP codes in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise and southern Henderson.

It is usually behind a small hatch at the lower front of the machine. Put towels and a shallow tray underneath, because water will come out when you open it. Unscrew the filter slowly, clean out lint and small items, and screw it back in firmly. Cleaning it every few months prevents many drain errors.

ASKO washers heat water with an internal element. Hard water scale builds up on that element, and it can fail or trip a safety cutoff, while a failed temperature sensor can also stop heating. Running a descaling product periodically helps. If washes stay cold, we test the element and sensor to find the cause.

Some vibration is normal during high-speed spins, but heavy shaking can loosen the stacking kit. Check that the washer is level with its feet locked, and confirm the stacking hardware is tight. Shipping bolts left in after installation cause severe vibration. If shaking continues with balanced loads, have the suspension and bearings checked.

Usually, since ASKO washers use stainless construction intended for long service. Pumps, locks, heaters and sensors are reasonable repairs. A bearing replacement takes more labor, and we compare it with the cost of replacement for you. We give one price for parts and labor after diagnosis so you can decide.

Unplug the washer, place towels and a shallow pan in front of the drain filter door, and slowly open the filter or emergency drain hose if your model has one. Expect more water than the pan holds, so drain in stages. Once the water is out, clean the filter and check whether the washer drains normally on a short spin.

Many ASKO washers are designed for a cold-water connection and heat water internally, while some models accept both. Check the installation guide for your model number. Connecting a cold-only model to the hot line can confuse its temperature control and waste energy. If your washer was moved from another home, confirm the hookup matches what the model expects.

Front-loaders can develop odors when residue builds up in the door seal, drawer or sump. Wipe the door seal, leave the door ajar after use, clean the detergent drawer and run a hot cleaning cycle with a washer cleaner. Reduce detergent if you see excess suds or residue.

A fast, smooth whir at top speed is expected, since ASKO washers spin harder than most. Grinding, a jet-engine roar that grows louder over weeks, or loud banging are not. First make sure the load is not a single heavy item and the feet are level and locked. If the noise continues on balanced loads, the drum bearings or shock absorbers are the likely cause.

Use a high-efficiency detergent made for front-loaders, and dose for the load size and your water hardness rather than filling the cup. Compact washers use little water, so excess detergent leaves suds and residue that cause odors and rinse problems. Liquid and powder both work; pods are fine for full loads but can overdose small ones.
