How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Kenmore refrigerators
Kenmore and Kenmore Elite refrigerators were made by different companies depending on the model, which is why we check the model number prefix before anything else: some are built on Whirlpool platforms, some by LG with linear or inverter compressors, and others by Frigidaire. That changes everything from the ice maker design to the defrost control. Common calls include ice makers that stop, frost buildup from defrost failures, failing evaporator fans, and on certain LG-built models, compressor or ice maker complaints. A visit covers temperature readings, a defrost and fan check, and compressor testing before we quote.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Kenmore. If this refrigerator is still under its factory warranty, contact Kenmore first.
Where Kenmore refrigerators usually fail

- Freezer cold but refrigerator section slowly climbs above forty degrees
- Rattling or buzzing from evaporator fan behind the freezer panel
- Water leaking under the crisper drawers from a blocked drain

Repairing Kenmore refrigerators in the Las Vegas Valley
Kenmore never built its own refrigerators. Sears contracted them out, and the three digits before the dot in the model number show the source. A 106 model is usually Whirlpool-built, 253 points to Frigidaire, 795 to LG and 596 to GE. Two Kenmore fridges that look alike in the showroom can have entirely different defrost controls, compressors and ice makers.
We service Kenmore refrigerators in homes and rentals around the southwest valley, including plenty of older top-freezer and side-by-side units that have outlived their warranties by years. After identifying the platform, we take temperature readings in both compartments, listen to the fans, inspect the defrost parts and test the compressor, and the quote you approve covers parts and labor together.
Same badge, different engineering
A Whirlpool-built Kenmore side-by-side often uses an adaptive defrost control and a familiar ice maker with a heated mold. A Frigidaire-built model typically uses a different defrost system and ice maker design. An LG-built Kenmore Elite may have a linear compressor and an in-door ice compartment. The symptom of a warm fresh-food section can mean different parts on each one.
That is why a model number photo before the visit is so useful. It lets us bring parts that fit the actual platform instead of guessing from the badge.
Typical symptoms by age
Older Kenmore top-freezers commonly come down to a defrost timer, heater or thermostat, a seized evaporator fan or a start relay. Mid-age side-by-sides tend to involve ice makers, water valves and dispensers. Newer Elite French door units bring control boards, inverter compressors and door ice systems into the picture.
Checks before you book
Find the model tag, usually on a side wall inside the fresh-food section or under the crisper, and take a clear photo. Check that the doors close and seal, that the condenser area at the bottom is not packed with dust, and that the temperature controls were not bumped.
If the fridge is warm, do not turn the controls to the coldest setting and wait. That rarely fixes a mechanical fault and can freeze food in the fresh-food side once the real problem is solved.
Is an older Kenmore worth the repair?
Many Kenmore refrigerators, particularly Whirlpool and Frigidaire-built ones, were designed with simple, replaceable parts. A fan, defrost component or relay is usually a sensible repair even on an older unit. A sealed-system leak or compressor on a fridge that is many years old is a different question, and we will give you an honest comparison with a replacement before you decide.
In rentals, owners often want the simplest dependable fix. We can explain which repairs extend life and which only buy time.

It is usually on a label inside the fresh food section, along a side wall or near the ceiling. The three digits before the decimal point identify the manufacturer that built the unit, such as Whirlpool, LG or Frigidaire. Because parts and diagnostics follow the true maker, sharing the full model number when you book helps us arrive prepared with the right information.
Door-mounted ice makers on some Kenmore Elite French-door models rely on cold air ducted from the freezer and a tight seal around the ice compartment. When the seal leaks or the compartment fan or heater misbehaves, ice can clump or frost forms around the bin. A worn compartment gasket is a frequent cause. We check airflow and the compartment parts before replacing the ice maker itself.
Defrost water normally drains from the freezer through a tube to a pan underneath. If the drain hole freezes or clogs with debris, water backs up and spills into the fresh food section, often under the drawers. Clearing the drain is a common fix, but repeat freezing can indicate a failed drain heater or defrost component that should be tested.
Many are, because parts for the major platforms remain widely available. Fans, valves, ice makers, defrost components and boards are usually sensible repairs. A compressor or sealed-system failure is a bigger investment, so on older units we discuss it openly. You get one price after diagnosis and can decide based on the unit's overall condition.
They identify the manufacturer that built the unit for Sears. That tells us which parts catalog and diagnostic approach apply, because the internals vary widely between makers. The digits after the decimal identify the specific model. Having both lets us confirm parts availability and, in many cases, bring the likely parts on the first visit.
For most models, yes. Because the refrigerators were built on Whirlpool, Frigidaire, LG or GE platforms, many parts match those makers' parts and are still sourced through normal supply channels. Some cosmetic or model-specific parts, like certain door bins or trim, can be harder to find. We confirm availability before quoting.
Check that nothing is blocking the vents between the freezer and fresh-food sections, and listen for the evaporator fan in the freezer. If the fan is silent or the back panel is heavily frosted, a defrost or fan fault is likely. This pattern is common across all Kenmore platforms, though the defrost parts differ by maker.
Loading a lot of warm food at once raises the temperature, and some recovery time is normal. If recovery takes much longer than it used to, the condenser may be dirty, the fan may be weak or the door seals may be leaking. On LG-built Elite models with variable-speed compressors, the fridge may ramp up gradually instead of running hard.
Most refrigerators should be level side to side and tilted slightly back so the doors close on their own. A fridge tilted forward can leave doors open a crack, which leads to frost and warm spots. The leveling legs or rollers are at the front bottom. If the doors still drift open after adjusting, the hinges may be worn.
