How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about True Residential refrigerators
True Residential refrigerators include undercounter units, often installed in islands, bars and outdoor kitchens, and full-size column refrigerators. They're engineered with commercial-style features like heavy hinges and strong compressors, but rely on front ventilation that clogs with dust and lint. Common repairs include cleaning a clogged condenser, replacing an evaporator or condenser fan, fixing a door gasket or hinge, and replacing a temperature sensor or control. We also check refrigerant performance when cooling is weak. Each visit ends with one price before any work begins.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with True Residential. If this refrigerator is still under its factory warranty, contact True Residential first.
Where True Residential refrigerators usually fail
- Front-breathing condenser clogs and the unit runs warm
- Undercounter refrigerator struggles in an outdoor kitchen
- Door hinge spring weakens and the door stays ajar
- Temperature sensor fails and the display reads wrong
- Condenser fan stops and the compressor overheats

Repairing True Residential refrigerators in the Las Vegas Valley
True Residential refrigerators come from a company known for commercial refrigeration, and it shows in the build: heavy steel cabinets, strong hinges and compressors sized for hard use. Most are front-breathing, which means air enters and leaves through the grille at the bottom front. That lets them sit flush in islands, bars and outdoor kitchens, but it also means the grille is the unit's lungs.
When a True runs warm, the first question is whether it can breathe. Dust, lint and pet hair clog the front grille and condenser, and in an outdoor kitchen, desert dust and summer heat add to the load. We clean and check airflow, then test fans, sensors, controls and refrigerant performance, and give you one price before any repair.
Undercounter units in islands and bars
An undercounter True sits in a cabinet run with no room behind or beside it, so all of its heat goes out the front. If a toe kick, rug or trash can blocks the grille, the condenser cannot shed heat and the compressor runs long and hot. Clearing the area in front of the grille is the simplest fix and the first one we check.
Units in bars often see constant door openings during gatherings. That is normal use, but it puts extra load on the condenser and door seals.
Outdoor kitchens in desert heat
True offers models designed for outdoor installation, and they hold up better than indoor units placed outside. Even so, a valley backyard in summer is a hard environment. Direct sun on the door, hot air under a counter and blowing dust all make the refrigerator work harder. Shade, airflow and regular grille cleaning make a large difference.
If an indoor-only unit was installed outdoors, that alone can explain poor performance.
Owner steps before the visit
Clear anything blocking the front grille and look for dust buildup behind it. Check that the door closes on its own and the gasket is not torn. Note the display temperature and compare it with a thermometer inside.
If you clean the grille area, unplug the unit or switch off its breaker first. Do not bend the condenser fins or reach into the fan area while the unit is running.
Repair value on a True Residential unit
True units are built to be serviced, and repairs such as fans, sensors, controls, gaskets and hinges are usually worth doing. Even sealed-system repairs often make sense given the unit's build and the cost of replacing a built-in piece. Before you commit, we lay out what the repair costs and how much service life the unit likely has left.

Undercounter units pull air through the front grille, and a clogged condenser is the most common cause of warm temperatures. Check that the grille isn't blocked. Cleaning the condenser often helps. If it stays warm, a fan, sensor or refrigerant issue may be involved.
Only models rated for outdoor use should be installed outside. Summer heat and dust make outdoor refrigeration work hard, and condensers clog faster. Shade the unit, keep the grille clean, and expect longer run times and closer maintenance in July and August.
Many True doors use spring-loaded hinges that pull the door closed. When the spring weakens or the hinge loosens, the door may stay slightly open. Adjusting or replacing the hinge cartridge restores a firm close and prevents frost and warm temperatures.
In a dusty, hot climate, clean it every three to six months. Unplug the unit, remove the front grille and gently vacuum the condenser coil. Units in outdoor kitchens or near pets may need it more often. Clean coils help the compressor last longer.
Turn off power, then remove or open the front grille according to the manual. Use a soft brush and vacuum to clear dust and lint from the grille and the condenser fins behind it. Avoid bending the fins. In homes with pets or outdoor installations, checking every few months is a good habit.
Indoor units are not designed for outdoor heat, dust and moisture, and they may struggle or fail sooner when placed outside. True offers outdoor-rated models for that purpose. If you already have an indoor unit outside and it runs warm in summer, the location is likely part of the problem.
Some difference is normal, since the display sensor reads air at a specific point. A large gap may mean the sensor is failing, the thermometer is placed near the door or vent, or the unit is not cooling evenly. We compare readings in several spots and test the sensor during the visit.
True hinges are heavy-duty, but they can loosen over time, especially with frequent use. A loose hinge can stop the door from sealing. Check whether the screws are tight. If the door still sags or will not close on its own, the hinge or its closing mechanism may need adjustment or replacement.
True units can be a bit louder than some residential models because of their commercial-style components, especially when the compressor and fans are running hard. A new rattle, grinding or high-pitched whine is different and can point to a fan or loose part. Note when it happens and where it seems to come from.
