How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Maytag cooktops
Maytag cooktops come in gas, radiant electric and induction versions, sized mostly at 30 and 36 inches for standard countertop cutouts. Gas cooktops typically need service for burners that click continuously, weak or uneven flames, or a spark module that stops firing. Radiant electric tops often have a failed element, a stuck infinite switch, or a cracked glass surface. Induction models can lose a zone to a power board or cooling fan fault. On a visit we check each burner or zone, test switches and modules, and confirm gas connections are safe before quoting the repair.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Maytag. If this cooktop is still under its factory warranty, contact Maytag first.
Where Maytag cooktops usually fail
- Gas burner keeps clicking after the flame is lit
- Radiant element stays on high regardless of setting
- Cracked glass top over one of the burners
- Induction zone does not recognize the cookware
- Burner flame lifting, yellow or uneven around the cap

Repairing Maytag cooktops in the Las Vegas Valley
A Maytag cooktop is a drop-in unit set into the counter, with its controls on the top surface and nothing beneath it but a cabinet or drawer. That layout keeps the cooktop serviceable, but it also means the wiring, gas valve manifold and switches sit directly under the cooking surface, where spills and heat take their toll.
Maytag sells gas, radiant electric and induction versions. They share a badge but not much else, so the first step is identifying which technology you have and then testing burner by burner or zone by zone. The model tag, usually on the underside of the cooktop or on a card in the cabinet below, tells us exactly which version you have.
Three technologies, three sets of faults
Gas tops use sealed burners with a spark igniter at each burner and a module under the surface. Radiant tops use ribbon elements under ceramic glass, each controlled by an infinite switch or a relay on an electronic board. Induction tops create heat in the pan itself through copper coils driven by power electronics and cooled by a fan.
A dead radiant element, a constantly sparking gas burner and an induction zone with an error message have nothing in common under the surface, so the repair path depends on the type.
What you can safely check
On gas tops, make sure burner caps sit flat and the igniter tip is clean and dry. Wet igniters after cleaning often click until they dry out. On induction, test the zone with a pan a magnet sticks to firmly. On radiant glass, look for cracks; a cracked top should not be used.
Do not remove the cooktop from the counter or loosen gas fittings. If you smell gas, turn off the gas supply and contact the utility before anything else.
Inside the visit
We lift the cooktop from its cutout when needed, test switches, elements, spark module and valves on gas, or check power and coil boards and the cooling fan on induction. Gas connections are leak-tested before we leave.
Under-counter clearance matters. If drawers or a wall oven sit directly below, we plan access so nothing is scratched. You get a single price before any part is ordered.
Is a cooktop repair worth it?
Because a cooktop is sized to its countertop cutout, replacing it is not always a simple swap; a new model may not fit the opening. That makes switches, igniters, elements and even some induction boards good-value repairs. Replacement glass on radiant tops is sometimes expensive, so we check price and availability first.

Constant clicking usually means moisture or food debris around the spark electrode, or a burner cap that is not seated correctly. Turn the cooktop off, let it cool, remove the caps and dry everything thoroughly. If clicking continues on all burners with knobs off, a switch or spark module is likely failing, which is a part replacement.
The glass itself cannot be patched; it has to be replaced. A cracked top should not be used, because spills can reach the elements and wiring underneath. Unplug or turn off the circuit until replacement. Glass tops are often still worth replacing on a newer cooktop, and we check the elements and switches at the same time.
That is usually a failed infinite switch, the control knob switch that cycles power to regulate heat. When the contacts weld together, the element runs at full power regardless of the setting. Less often, the element itself has a fault. A technician can test the switch with power off and replace it without changing the whole cooktop.
A healthy burner flame is mostly blue. Yellow, lazy flames often mean a misaligned burner cap, clogged ports, or a gas conversion issue if the cooktop was switched between natural gas and propane. Dust carried indoors during summer storms can also clog ports. Clean the burner parts first. If it persists or you smell gas, turn off the supply and schedule a visit.
A partly blocked burner port, a cap that is slightly off center, or debris in the orifice beneath the burner can all reduce flame size. Clean ports with a soft brush, not a toothpick that can snap off. If the flame is still small, the valve or orifice needs a closer look.
Yes. The pan must be magnetic, such as cast iron or most stainless steel with a magnetic base. Aluminum, copper and glass will not heat. If a zone ignores a pan you know works, try another zone; if several reject it, a board or sensor fault is more likely than the cookware.
Not always. Cutout sizes vary between models and generations, even at the same nominal width. That is one reason repairing an existing cooktop often makes sense. If replacement is needed, measure the cutout carefully or ask us to confirm before you buy.
On radiant cooktops, the light shows that the glass is still hot after use. If it stays lit long after the surface has cooled, the indicator circuit or a switch may be stuck. That alone is harmless, but if the element also stays on, turn off the breaker and have it checked.
Many electronic radiant and induction Maytag cooktops have a control lock, usually activated by holding a key for a few seconds. If the cooktop suddenly ignores every touch, check for a lock icon before assuming a fault. Gas models with mechanical knobs do not have a lock feature.
