How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Fisher & Paykel cooktops
Fisher & Paykel offers gas, induction and electric cooktops in several widths, as well as modular cooktops in some lines, many with wok burners or flexible induction zones. Gas cooktops may need burner ignition, flame failure safety devices, or valves serviced. Induction cooktops can develop power board faults, cooling fan problems or a zone that does not sense pans. Ceramic glass can crack. On a visit we test burner ignition, flame failure devices or induction modules, check cooling airflow beneath the cooktop, and inspect gas connections for leaks before quoting the repair.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Fisher & Paykel. If this cooktop is still under its factory warranty, contact Fisher & Paykel first.
Where Fisher & Paykel cooktops usually fail
- Gas burner goes out when the knob is released
- Wok burner flame uneven or difficult to adjust
- Induction flex zone not linking multiple pans together
- Cooling fan noisy beneath an induction cooktop
- Touch slider unresponsive on the induction controls

Repairing Fisher & Paykel cooktops in the Las Vegas Valley
Fisher & Paykel gas cooktops include a flame failure device on each burner, a thermocouple that keeps the valve open only while the flame is present. That safety feature is why you hold the knob in for a few seconds after lighting, and it is also the source of many burners that go out when released.
Induction cooktops in the range include flexible zones that can link to suit larger pans. They rely on power boards, coil sensors and a cooling fan, and they are sensitive to airflow under the cooktop and the type of pan used, which affects how we approach diagnosis. We always confirm with a known induction pan before blaming a board.
Flame failure devices explained
When you light a burner, heat from the flame warms the thermocouple, which generates a small current that holds the gas valve open. If the thermocouple is dirty, misaligned or failing, the valve closes when you release the knob.
Cleaning and positioning often solve it. When a thermocouple has failed, we replace it and test the valve hold time. We also check the gas supply pressure, because a weak supply can produce a flame too small to keep the sensor warm.
Wok burners and high output
Wok burners use multiple flame rings for high heat and need clean ports and properly seated rings. A ring placed upside down or misaligned after cleaning can cause uneven flames or poor ignition.
These burners also put more heat into the surrounding area, which can stress knobs and controls over time.
If the cooktop sits in an island, drafts from a ceiling fan or open patio door can push the outer flame around enough to cool the thermocouple. That looks like a fault but is really placement, and a technician can confirm it in a few minutes.
Owner checks
On gas, make sure burner caps and rings are seated and dry. Hold the knob in a few seconds longer after lighting to see if the burner stays lit. On induction, try a different pan and confirm the control lock is off.
Turn off gas or power before cleaning near igniters or controls. Do not use a cooktop with cracked glass.
Repair choices
Thermocouples, igniters, valves, knobs and spark modules are reasonable repairs on gas models. Induction power boards and coils are more costly but often worthwhile on a premium top.
Replacing a cooktop means matching the cutout, which is not always possible with a new model. That often makes repair the better route.

Many of these cooktops use a flame failure device, a thermocouple that keeps the gas valve open only while it senses flame. Hold the knob in a few extra seconds after lighting to let it warm. If the burner still goes out, the thermocouple may be dirty, misaligned or failed and should be checked.
Touch controls can stop responding when the glass is wet or has residue, or when the control lock is active. Wipe the glass and check whether the lock is on. If the issue persists, the touch control board or ribbon connection may be failing, which requires diagnosis.
A low hum and a cooling fan are normal during use. Grinding, rattling or loud whining suggests a failing fan or an object in the cabinet blocking airflow. Overheating can shut down zones. Make sure the vents below are clear. A worn fan should be replaced before it damages the electronics.
Many gas cooktops can be converted with the correct orifice kit, but the conversion must be done properly and checked for leaks. Not every model supports it. If your cooktop was converted and has yellow or lifting flames, the conversion should be inspected. We can check burner settings during a visit.
Most burners need a few seconds of holding the knob in so the flame can warm the thermocouple. If you need to hold it much longer than before, or the burner still goes out, the thermocouple or its position may need attention. Cleaning residue from the sensor tip is a safe first step.
Induction requires magnetic cookware with a flat base large enough for the zone. A pan that is too small, warped or not magnetic will not be detected. Test with a magnet on the base of the pan. If a known induction pan is not recognized, the zone sensor or board may be at fault.
Touch controls sense liquid as an unintended touch, and many induction cooktops switch zones off or lock the panel when a boil-over covers the controls. That is a safety response, not a fault. Wipe the panel dry, wait a moment and restart. If the controls stay unresponsive once dry, the touch board may need testing.
Each zone uses its own coil and power output, and linking is handled by the control. A single faulty coil or power module can often be replaced without changing the whole board. We test zones individually to find which part has failed.
Turn off all burners, avoid using switches or flames, ventilate and leave the area if the smell is strong. Contact the gas utility for a strong smell. A faint smell when lighting can be normal, but a smell at rest needs to be checked. We leak-test every connection we touch before leaving.
