What to know about Avanti cooktops
Avanti cooktops are compact two- and four-burner units in gas and electric versions, often used in small kitchens, casitas and rentals. The electric models use coil elements or radiant elements under glass, controlled by infinite switches, so an element that will not heat or stays on high usually traces back to the element, its terminal block or the switch. Gas cooktops use simple burners with electronic or match lighting depending on the model, and common faults include clogged ports and weak igniters. We test the parts on site and confirm replacements are available for the model.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Avanti. If this cooktop is still under its factory warranty, contact Avanti first.
Where Avanti cooktops usually fail
- Coil element not heating because of a burned terminal
- Infinite switch stuck so an element stays on high
- Radiant glass cooktop element failing on one zone only
- Gas burner ports clogged by spills and food
- Igniter not sparking on one or more gas burners

Repairing Avanti cooktops in the Las Vegas Valley
Avanti cooktops are compact drop-in units for counters, most often two-burner or four-burner models about 12 to 24 inches wide. You find them in casitas, guest suites, condo kitchenettes and remodels where a full range would not fit. They come in gas, coil electric and smooth glass electric versions, and the repair approach differs for each.
On a two-burner unit, losing one burner cuts your cooking capacity in half, so these repairs feel urgent even when the fix is small. The good news is that the parts are straightforward, and a dead burner can usually be traced to a single component with a meter and a few minutes of careful testing.
Inside a compact electric cooktop
Coil models use plug-in elements, receptacles and infinite switches, all of which can be tested individually. Glass-top versions place radiant elements under a ceramic surface, often with a limiter that cuts power if the glass overheats.
Smaller cooktops may share one supply between both elements, so a loose connection at the terminal can affect both burners at once. Before replacing an element, we check that power is actually reaching it.
Gas models and ignition
Avanti gas cooktops use sealed burners with either spark ignition or match lighting, depending on the model. A burner that sparks but will not light usually has a clogged port or a cap that is out of position.
A weak, yellow or lifting flame often means debris in the burner or the wrong orifice for the gas type. Converting between natural gas and propane must be done with the correct parts for that model.
Checks you can make
Confirm that the breaker is on or that the gas valve behind the cooktop is open. On coil models, swap two elements to see whether the fault follows the element. On gas models, lift the burner caps, clean the ports with a soft brush, and let everything dry before relighting.
Switch off power or gas before lifting the cooktop from its cutout. If the glass is cracked, stop using that cooktop entirely.
Repair value for a compact cooktop
Elements, receptacles, switches and igniters are inexpensive and almost always worth replacing. Glass replacement costs more and depends on availability.
When a compact cooktop is older and needs multiple parts, a new unit that fits the same cutout may be the better buy. We check dimensions and parts before giving you a recommendation.

Possibly, but check the connection too. Coil elements plug into a terminal block, and burned or loose terminals are common. With the power off, try swapping the element with one that works on a matching position. If the problem follows the element, replace it; if not, the terminal or switch needs testing.
The infinite switch controls each element by cycling power on and off. When the switch's contacts wear or weld together, the element can stay fully on or work only at its highest setting. Replacing the switch usually fixes it. Turn off power at the breaker before removing the control panel.
Some compact electric models plug into a standard outlet, while others require a dedicated higher-voltage circuit. Check the rating label and the manual for your model. Using the wrong circuit or an extension cord can overheat the cord and trip breakers. Gas models still need a proper gas connection.
Turn off the burners and let them cool. Lift off the grate and cap, then clear the burner ports with a soft brush or a straightened paper clip, keeping debris out of the gas opening. Let everything dry before reassembling. If flames stay uneven after cleaning, have the burner and orifice checked.
It depends on the model and its power rating. Some smaller units can plug into a standard outlet, while others are hardwired to a dedicated circuit. Check the rating label under the cooktop or in the manual. If the breaker trips when both burners run, the circuit or the cooktop wiring needs to be checked.
Many dark spots are baked-on residue that responds to a glass-top cleaner and a razor scraper held flat. If the spot feels raised, looks like a crack or has a rainbow sheen that will not clean, the glass may be damaged. Stop using that zone until it has been inspected.
A coil that heats unevenly often has an internal break or is not seated fully in its receptacle. Push it in firmly with the power off. If it still glows only partly, replace the element and inspect the receptacle, since a damaged receptacle can ruin a new coil.
Many gas cooktops can be converted, but only with the conversion parts specified for that model. Using the wrong orifices can cause a large, sooty flame or one that will not stay lit. We can check whether your model supports conversion and install the correct parts.
Turn off the gas shutoff valve behind or below the cooktop right away and ventilate the room. Do not try to force the knob. A valve that will not close must be replaced before the cooktop is used again, and we test the connections for leaks once the new valve is in.
