What to know about Samsung cooktops

Samsung cooktops come in gas, radiant electric and induction versions, and each fails in its own way. Gas models commonly have igniters that click without stopping or burners that will not light because a spill has soaked the spark electrode. Radiant glass cooktops lose individual elements or the switches and relays that control them. Induction units can show errors when the pan is not compatible or when the cooling fan and power board run hot. A visit begins by identifying which zone and which circuit is at fault, then checking the glass for cracks before any repair is quoted.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Samsung. If this cooktop is still under its factory warranty, contact Samsung first.

Where Samsung cooktops usually fail

  • Gas igniter clicking nonstop after a boil-over
  • Radiant element stuck on high or not heating
  • Induction zone not recognizing a compatible pan
  • Cracked glass top over one of the elements
  • Touch controls unresponsive or stuck in lock mode

Repairing Samsung cooktops in the Las Vegas Valley

A Samsung cooktop sits in a counter cutout with no oven underneath, so its electronics live in a shallow box below the glass or burner tray. That box shares space with drawers, pots and sometimes a cabinet that gets warm. On induction models the cooling fan and power boards depend on air reaching them through that space.

Samsung's induction line includes models with Virtual Flame, LED lights that project a blue glow onto the pan sides so you can see the power level. It is a nice touch, and it adds one more board to check when a zone acts up. We test zone by zone before we quote.

Three cooktop types, three different fault patterns

Gas Samsung cooktops use sealed burners and a spark module shared by all burners. When every burner clicks at once, the shared module and the switch on each valve are the usual suspects, not the individual igniters.

Radiant glass models use infinite switches or electronic relays to cycle each element. An element stuck on full power points to a welded switch contact or a relay, while a dead element is often the element itself.

Induction models have generator boards that drive pairs of zones. When two zones on the same side quit together, we look at that board and its fan before anything else.

Cabinet airflow beneath induction glass

Samsung's installation instructions call for ventilation space below induction units. If a drawer was added under the cooktop, or the cabinet is packed with pans touching the bottom of the unit, the fan cannot move enough air. The result is error codes or zones dropping power partway through cooking.

Kitchens get warm on summer afternoons here, and a cooktop pulling cabinet air that is already hot has less margin. Clearing the space below is a free first step.

What owners can try first

On gas models, dry the burner cap and base thoroughly after a spill and make sure each cap sits flat on its base. On glass, check whether the child lock is on; Samsung usually shows a lock symbol and holds it for a few seconds before releasing.

If the glass is cracked, stop using that cooktop and turn off the breaker. Liquid can reach live parts through a crack.

Repair versus a new cooktop

Igniters, spark modules, radiant elements and switches are modest repairs. Induction generator boards and replacement glass tops cost more, and on an older induction cooktop the total can approach the price of a new unit. Replacing a cooktop also means matching the counter cutout, which narrows your choices, so repairing a newer unit is usually the better path.

Samsung Cooktop Repair Questions

Still have questions?

We cover 15 ZIP codes in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise and southern Henderson.

Moisture or food on a spark electrode, a misaligned burner cap, or a wet spark switch behind a knob can keep the igniters clicking. Turn off the cooktop, let it dry fully, and reseat the caps. If clicking continues with everything dry, the spark switch or module is likely failing and needs testing with power and gas handled safely.

Induction only works with magnetic cookware that covers enough of the zone. Hold a magnet to the bottom of the pan: if it does not stick firmly, the pan will not work. If a known-good pan fails on one zone but works on another, the coil or the power board for that zone is the likely fault, and we test those directly.

No. A crack can let spills reach the elements and wiring below, and the glass can break further under heat. Turn the cooktop off at the breaker and stop using it. Replacement glass is available for many Samsung models, but it can be a large share of the cost of a new cooktop, so we confirm availability before quoting.

Check that the control lock is not on, and wipe the panel clean and dry, because water and grease can make touch controls ignore input. A power interruption can also leave the panel in an error state, and turning the breaker off for a minute often resets it. If the controls still do not respond, the touch board or main board needs testing.

That is Virtual Flame, a set of LEDs that shine onto the sides of the pan to show the power level. It is separate from the induction heating, so the lights can fail while the zone keeps cooking, or the reverse. We check the LED board and the induction board separately when one of them stops working.

Some hum is normal at higher power, and it changes with the pan material and size. Multi-layer pans with loose bases can buzz more. A loud whine from below, especially with the cooling fan silent, can point to a fan problem that lets the boards overheat, which is worth a visit.

On many models the glass top is available as an assembly with the frame and sometimes the touch controls. It is a sizable part, and pricing depends on the model. If the cooktop is older, we compare the cost with a new unit that fits your cutout before you decide.

A yellow or uneven flame usually means the burner ports are clogged from spills, the cap is off-center or air is not mixing properly. Clean the ports with a soft brush and seat the cap. If the flame stays yellow or produces soot, turn it off and have the gas burner checked.

We shut off the breaker ourselves before opening the cooktop, and on gas units we also close the gas valve. For your part, if a zone is stuck on and will not turn off at the controls, switch off the cooktop breaker and book a repair rather than letting it run.
