How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Fisher & Paykel dryers
Fisher & Paykel dryers sold in the US are mostly electric vented models, designed to pair with the brand's washers, with some models using auto-sensing dry cycles. When one stops heating, the cause is usually a failed element, a thermal cutout tripped by restricted airflow, or a thermistor reading incorrectly. Mechanical repairs include worn drive belts, drum support rollers and the motor. Auto-sensing cycles can end early if moisture sensors are coated with softener residue. On a visit we test the heater and safety thermostats, inspect the lint and exhaust path, and check the drum supports before quoting.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Fisher & Paykel. If this dryer is still under its factory warranty, contact Fisher & Paykel first.
Where Fisher & Paykel dryers usually fail
- Dryer heats briefly then shuts the heater off again
- Auto-sensing cycle ends before clothes are fully dry
- Drum support rollers worn, causing thumping noise
- Thermal cutout tripped by lint in the exhaust duct
- Drive belt slipping so the drum turns intermittently

Repairing Fisher & Paykel dryers in the Las Vegas Valley
Fisher & Paykel dryers are compact, electric and designed around a sensing system that ends the cycle when clothes are dry. That system relies on clean airflow and accurate moisture readings, so a lot of complaints, such as damp loads or short cycles, come from the conditions around the dryer rather than a dead part.
In valley homes, laundry often sits in a hall closet or garage with long duct runs to the outside. Lint and dust from those runs affect a Fisher & Paykel dryer just as much as any other brand, and a check of the exhaust path is a standard part of our visit before any heater or sensor is condemned.
How it decides a load is dry
Moisture sensor bars inside the drum detect how wet the clothes are by measuring conductivity as they tumble across them. Softener residue coats those bars and makes the dryer think clothes are drier than they are, ending the cycle early.
A temperature sensor in the airflow tells the control how hot it is running. If that reading is wrong, heating cycles can be too short or the dryer can shut the heat off early.
Where heat problems come from
When the element fails, the dryer tumbles cold. When a safety cutout trips from overheating, heat stops entirely until it resets or is replaced. When the airflow is restricted, the element cycles on and off quickly and loads take far longer.
We measure resistance on the element and cutouts, check the thermistor reading and look at airflow at the vent hood outside.
What owners can safely do
Clean the lint filter after every load and wipe the sensor bars with a little rubbing alcohol if you use dryer sheets. Check that the outside vent flap opens freely when the dryer runs.
Unplug the dryer before moving it, and do not remove the back panel to look at the element. A tripped cutout means something overheated, and bypassing it creates a fire risk.
Repair decisions
Elements, cutouts, sensors, belts and rollers are reasonable repairs on a Fisher & Paykel dryer in good condition. A failed motor or control on an older model may tip toward replacement, especially if the matching washer is also aging.
We give you the full repair price and our view on whether replacing the pair makes more sense than fixing one.

When a dryer heats briefly then cools, a safety thermostat is often cutting the heater because of restricted airflow. Lint buildup in the exhaust duct or a blocked outdoor vent is the most common reason. A failing thermistor can cause similar behavior. Clean the lint screen and check the outside vent; if it persists, the thermostats should be tested.
Locate the metal strips inside the drum, often near the lint filter area. Wipe them with a soft cloth and a little rubbing alcohol to remove softener and dryer-sheet residue. Do this every few months, since residue builds up quickly. If the dryer still ends cycles early, the sensor wiring or the control may need checking.
Dry air helps clothes dry faster, but the bigger issue for dryers here is lint and dust. Summer dust storms can coat outdoor vent flaps and screens, and long vent runs through stucco walls collect lint. Check the outdoor vent after storms and have the duct cleaned periodically so the heater safety controls do not trip.
Confirm both breakers on the dryer circuit are on, clean the lint filter, and check the outdoor vent opens when the dryer runs. Note whether the drum turns, whether there is any heat, and any noises. Have the model number ready, which is usually on a label inside the door opening.
Sensor cycles stop when the moisture bars read dry fabric, so coated bars, very small loads or mixed heavy and light items can end the cycle too soon. Clean the bars and dry similar fabrics together. If damp loads continue with clean bars and good venting, the sensor or control should be tested.
Vented models need a proper exhaust duct to the outside, ideally rigid or semi-rigid metal, kept as short and straight as practical. Plastic or crushed foil ducts restrict airflow and collect lint. If your dryer is in an interior laundry with a long attic run, regular duct cleaning matters more than usual.
Many Fisher & Paykel dryers can be stacked with a matching washer using the correct stacking kit, which is common in condos and small closets. Stacked installations take more time to service because the dryer may need to come down. Let us know about a stack when you book.
Thumping usually comes from a flat spot on a drum roller or a worn belt, and it often gets louder over time. It is generally not dangerous at first, but a failing roller can damage the drum or belt. Check for a shoe or heavy item in the load, then book a repair if it continues.
Lint collects inside the cabinet over time, particularly around the heater and motor, and can be a fire risk. Cleaning inside requires opening panels and should be done with the dryer unplugged. We clean accessible lint during repair visits and point out any heavy buildup.
