How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Speed Queen dryers
Speed Queen dryers come in gas and electric versions with a heavy-duty drum, simple mechanical or electronic controls, and a long-life drive system. Gas models use an igniter and gas valve coils, so a dryer that clicks, glows and then fails to light often has weak coils or a failing igniter. Electric models use a heating element and thermostats. Common mechanical faults are drum rollers, idler pulleys and belts. In a hot garage, a long or restricted vent increases heat stress on the safety thermostats. We check the vent, test the heat circuit and drive parts, and quote one price.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Speed Queen. If this dryer is still under its factory warranty, contact Speed Queen first.
Where Speed Queen dryers usually fail
- Gas igniter glowing but burner not lighting from weak coils
- Electric heating element open so loads stay cold
- High-limit thermostat tripping because exhaust venting is restricted
- Drum roller or idler pulley squealing during tumbling
- Drive belt broken so the drum stops turning

Repairing Speed Queen dryers in the Las Vegas Valley
Speed Queen dryers are built to the same heavy standard as the washers they sit beside. The DC5 pairs with the classic TC5 top loader and uses simple controls, while DR and DF models add electronic controls and features to match the TR and FF7 washers. Each is offered as a gas or electric model, with a large drum and a drive system designed for long service.
Because the machine itself is so durable, most Speed Queen dryer calls come down to the parts designed to wear or to protect it: igniters and valve coils, heating elements, thermostats and fuses, drum rollers, idler pulleys and belts. And very often, the problem is the vent the dryer is pushing air through.
How the gas burner lights on a Speed Queen
A gas dryer uses a glow-bar igniter, a flame sensor and gas valve coils. The igniter heats until the sensor signals the valve to open. If the coils weaken, the burner may light once and then fail to relight as the dryer cycles. If the igniter weakens, it may glow without ever lighting the burner.
We watch the burner through the access panel during a full heat cycle and test the igniter, sensor and coils in turn, so only the weak part is replaced.
Heat and safety parts on electric models
Electric models use a heating element and several thermostats. A thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat protects against overheating. If the element opens, the dryer tumbles without heat. If the limit trips repeatedly, the dryer may heat inconsistently or shut off.
When a protective part has failed, airflow is the first thing we check, because a new fuse or limit in a dryer with a choked vent will simply fail again.
The vent and garage laundry
Many valley laundry rooms are in garages or hallway closets, and dryer ducts often run long distances through attics or walls to the roof. Lint builds up in those runs and slows airflow. A restricted vent makes the dryer run hot, take longer and stress thermostats and fuses.
We check vent airflow during every dryer visit and tell you if the duct needs cleaning or rerouting.
Checks to make before booking
Clean the lint screen every load, and wash it with warm soapy water now and then, since dryer sheet residue can clog the mesh without being visible. Step outside while the dryer runs and confirm the vent flap opens and air pushes out firmly. Pull the dryer forward carefully and look for a crushed foil duct behind it.
Unplug the dryer, and close the gas valve on gas models, before removing any panel. If you ever smell gas near the dryer, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
Repair value on a heavy-duty dryer
Igniters, valve coils, elements, thermostats, rollers, pulleys and belts are all worthwhile repairs on a Speed Queen, and most are completed in one visit. Motors and control boards cost more, but because the drum, cabinet and bearings are built for long service, repair usually still beats buying a replacement of similar quality.

When the igniter glows but the flame does not appear, the gas valve coils often fail to open the valve, especially as they warm up. The igniter itself can also weaken. Check that the gas supply valve is open. A technician can test the coils, igniter and flame sensor and replace only the part that has failed.
That usually means the exhaust is restricted. Hot air cannot escape, so the cabinet heats up while moisture stays in the clothes. Clean the lint screen and check the vent path, especially long runs or crushed ducts behind the dryer. A restricted vent also causes safety thermostats to trip.
Garage installations here can get very hot in summer, so the dryer starts with warmer intake air. On its own that is usually fine, but combined with a long or partly blocked vent it can lead to overheating and thermostat trips. Keeping the vent clean matters more in a garage.
A thumping noise often comes from worn drum rollers, a damaged belt or a flat spot on a roller. Squealing usually points to an idler pulley or roller bearing. These parts can be replaced, and doing it early prevents further wear on the belt and drum supports.
You can clean the short duct behind the dryer and the outside hood with a vent brush kit once the dryer is unplugged. Long runs through an attic or up to the roof are harder to clear fully, and roof work carries real risk. If drying time stays long after cleaning what you can reach, have the full run checked.
A squeal that starts as the drum begins turning usually comes from the idler pulley, whose bearing dries out over time, or from worn drum glides at the front. Belts can also squeal as they glaze. These are inexpensive parts. Replacing them early prevents the belt from breaking or the motor from straining.
Intermittent heat on an electric model often comes from a cycling thermostat or a high-limit thermostat that is tripping, or a heating element with a break that opens when hot. A restricted vent makes the limit trip more often. We test each part at temperature, because some faults only appear once the dryer warms up.
No special connection is needed, but the dryer must match your fuel type, natural gas or propane, and use an approved flexible connector with a shutoff valve. A dryer converted incorrectly can burn poorly or fail to ignite. We confirm the fuel type and check the burner flame during the visit.
Usually yes. A Speed Queen dryer with a failed igniter, element or belt still has plenty of service left, and repair costs far less than a new dryer. If the dryer has a major failure, we give you the price and an honest view, but most owners keep the pair together.
