How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about LG microwaves
Most LG microwaves we service are over-the-range units, with some countertop and built-in models, and many recent LG models use inverter power control instead of simple on-off cycling. An over-the-range LG also serves as the range hood, so we may be called for a failed vent fan, cooktop light or grease filter as well as heating problems. A microwave that runs but does not heat usually has a failed magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor, or inverter board. Because the high-voltage parts store a dangerous charge, these repairs are not do-it-yourself work. We test safely and quote before replacing anything.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with LG. If this microwave is still under its factory warranty, contact LG first.

- Microwave running and turning but food not heating
- Door switch failure blowing the main fuse repeatedly
- Over-the-range vent fan dead or rattling loudly
- Turntable not rotating from a worn motor or coupler
- Touch keypad not responding or registering phantom presses

Repairing LG microwaves in the Las Vegas Valley
Many LG microwaves use Smart Inverter power instead of the traditional transformer, so power levels are delivered smoothly rather than by switching the magnetron on and off. That changes the diagnosis. A microwave that runs but does not heat may have an inverter board fault, not just the magnetron or diode an older model would point to.
Most LG units we service are over-the-range models that double as the hood for the stove below. Some have ExtendaVent, a pull-out vent panel, and NeoChef styling. We test high-voltage parts only after discharging them, check the vent and light functions on hood models in the same visit, and give you a single quote to approve before anything is replaced.
Inverter boards and what they change
On an inverter LG, the board that powers the magnetron is a separate module. When it fails, the microwave lights up, turns and hums but stays cold. When the magnetron fails, the result can look the same. We test both, plus the door interlock circuit, so the right part is ordered.
Inverter models can also show subtler problems, such as heating weakly or only at full power, which point toward the board or its connections.
The hood side of an over-the-range LG
An LG over-the-range microwave handles cooking smoke and grease from the stove. Vent fans, the damper and the cooktop light all wear with use. Grease filters that are rarely cleaned slow the fan and coat the motor, and a blocked filter can make the unit run hot.
Hot air from below also affects the microwave's electronics. A large pot boiling on high for a long time sends heat up into the cabinet, which is why the vent fan sometimes turns on by itself.
Owner checks, and the parts to leave alone
Check that the door closes firmly and that nothing is stuck in the latch. Clean the grease filters under the unit. Make sure the outlet in the upper cabinet has power and the breaker has not tripped. If the turntable does not turn, check that the coupler and roller ring are seated.
Do not open the outer cabinet. Its high-voltage section stays lethal after the plug is pulled, and a microwave with a bent door or damaged seal should be taken out of service.
Is an LG microwave repair worth it?
For an over-the-range or built-in LG, a repair is often sensible because replacement includes mounting, venting and matching trim. Fans, switches, door parts and inverter boards are typical repairs. For a countertop model, a magnetron or board can cost close to a new unit, and we will tell you so before you spend money on it.

Please do not open the cabinet. The high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even after the microwave is unplugged. A no-heat fault usually comes down to the magnetron, the high-voltage diode, the capacitor or the inverter board, and these must be tested with the correct discharge procedure. Unplug it and let a technician diagnose it.
The door has several interlock switches that must operate in a set order. If one fails or the door is misaligned, the monitor switch can short the circuit on purpose and blow the fuse to stop the microwave from running with the door open. Replacing just the fuse does not fix this; the switches and door alignment need checking.
It depends on the fault. Door switches, turntable motors, vent fans and light sockets are usually reasonable repairs. A magnetron or inverter board costs more, and the replacement involves removing a heavy unit from the wall. We give you one price for the full repair so you can decide, and we tell you plainly when replacing it makes more sense.
About once a month if you cook often, or whenever you see a film of grease. Soak the metal filters in hot water with a little dish soap and let them dry before reinstalling. Clogged filters reduce venting, make the fan work harder and can let grease build up on the fan motor.
Many LG over-the-range models have a sensor that turns the vent fan on when heat from the cooktop below gets high, to protect the microwave's electronics. It usually shuts off as things cool. If the fan runs constantly with the cooktop off, or will not turn off with the button, a sensor, switch or control fault may be the cause.
It is a pull-out panel on some LG over-the-range models that extends the vent area forward to catch more smoke and steam from the front burners. If it sticks or will not stay out, the slide track or latch may be damaged. It does not affect cooking, but it can affect how well the hood clears smoke.
Some hum is normal, especially on traditional models. A loud buzz, arcing sounds or sparks inside the cavity are not. Sparks can come from metal, foil or damaged paint inside the cavity, or from a worn waveguide cover. Stop using the microwave if you see sparking, and have it inspected.
Sometimes. LG and other makers use different wall plate patterns, so a replacement may need a new plate and adjusted holes. That adds work, which is one reason repairing an otherwise sound over-the-range unit is often worthwhile. We can check the model and mounting before you decide.
The door should close firmly, latch without forcing and sit flat with no gaps. The glass and inner screen should be intact, and the hinges should not be bent. If the door was dropped on, the latch is broken or the microwave runs with the door open, stop using it. Door safety parts are not ones to work around.
