How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Whirlpool microwaves
Most Whirlpool microwaves we service are over-the-range units that double as a vent hood, with some countertop and built-in models. Over-the-range models add a vent fan, a cooktop light and grease filters to the usual microwave parts. The common faults are a microwave that runs but does not heat (often the magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor), door switches that blow the main fuse, turntable motors that stop, and noisy vent fans. Because the high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge after unplugging, inner repairs are not a do-it-yourself job. We test the high-voltage system safely and quote first.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Whirlpool. If this microwave is still under its factory warranty, contact Whirlpool first.

- Microwave runs and turntable spins but food stays cold
- Door switch failure blows the main fuse and kills power
- Over-the-range vent fan rattles or runs at one speed

Repairing Whirlpool microwaves in the Las Vegas Valley
An over-the-range Whirlpool microwave does two jobs. It cooks, and it is the vent hood and light for the cooktop below. When it fails, owners lose both, which is why repair is often worth considering even on a microwave. Replacing one also means matching the mounting plate and the cabinet height above the range.
These units hang from a wall plate and bolts through the cabinet above. Many repairs can be done in place, but some need the microwave lowered onto the range. We bring a helper or the tools to support it safely when needed, and we protect the cooktop surface while the unit is down.
Why a Whirlpool microwave stops heating
A microwave that runs, lights and turns but leaves food cold has lost its high-voltage circuit. The magnetron, diode, capacitor, transformer or a thermal cutout can be responsible. Each needs testing with the power off and the capacitor discharged.
We avoid replacing parts by symptom alone. Testing tells us which component failed and whether the cost of repair makes sense compared with replacing the whole unit.
Vent, light and cooktop-side failures
Over-the-range microwaves have a vent fan and lights facing the cooktop. Grease and heat wear the fan motor over time. Some models also turn the fan on automatically if the bottom gets too hot, which can surprise owners.
Clean grease filters regularly, and replace the charcoal filter if the vent recirculates rather than exhausting outside.
Safe owner checks
Reset the breaker, and test with a cup of water for one minute. Check the door for damage or a broken latch hook, and make sure the turntable is seated correctly.
Do not open the cabinet. A microwave's capacitor can store a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Do not run it empty or with a damaged door.
Repair or replace a Whirlpool microwave
For an over-the-range or built-in model, repair can make sense because replacement includes mounting and sometimes trim kits. Fuses, switches, turntable motors and vent fans are common, practical repairs.
A countertop microwave rarely justifies a costly part. We will tell you if replacement is the better choice.
Door switches and the blown-fuse pattern
Whirlpool microwaves use a set of interlock switches that must operate in a specific order as the door closes. If the latch hooks wear or one switch sticks, the monitor switch shorts the circuit on purpose and blows the main fuse. That is why a microwave that died the moment the door shut is so often a switch problem.
Replacing only the fuse brings the unit back for a day or a week. We test every switch in the set, look at the latch hooks on the door and replace what is worn so the fuse is not sacrificed again.

When there is no display at all, a blown main fuse is common, and it often blows because a door switch failed. Check the breaker first. Do not open the cabinet yourself, because the high-voltage capacitor can store a dangerous charge. We replace the fuse and test the door switches so the fuse does not blow again.
For an over-the-range unit, often yes, since replacing one also means removal, mounting and venting work. A failed diode or door switch is a modest repair. A magnetron costs more, and on a basic countertop model replacement may make more sense. We give you the diagnosis and price so you can decide.
Many over-the-range models have a thermal sensor that starts the vent fan automatically when the cooktop below gets hot, to protect the microwave's electronics. That is normal while or just after cooking. If the fan runs constantly with the cooktop off, the sensor or control may be faulty.
Monthly is a good habit if you cook often. Pop the metal filters out from underneath and soak them in hot, soapy water. Clogged filters reduce venting, make the fan work harder and let heat build under the microwave. Charcoal filters for recirculating installs are replaced rather than washed.
Sparking is often caused by metal, foil, or a damaged waveguide cover. The cover is the small panel on the cavity wall. Food splatter can burn into it and arc. Stop using the microwave, clean the cavity, and inspect the cover. If it is burned or the cavity paint is damaged, have it checked before using it again.
Yes, many turntable motors can turn either direction. A turntable that does not turn, makes a grinding noise or turns only intermittently may need a new motor, coupling or roller ring. Make sure the glass tray is seated correctly before booking.
Most Whirlpool over-the-range models have cooktop lights that are owner-replaceable, usually behind a small cover. Interior bulbs may require removing a panel or the microwave itself. If a new bulb does not help, the switch or control may be at fault.
Turn it off and unplug it. A burning smell can come from food residue, a scorched waveguide cover or an internal electrical problem. If cleaning does not remove the smell, or it appears while the microwave is empty, stop using it until inspected.
A properly working microwave with an intact door and seals does not leak at harmful levels. Damage to the door, hinges or seals is the concern. If the door is bent, cracked or does not close properly, stop using the microwave. A technician can measure leakage after repair.
