How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Fisher & Paykel microwaves
Fisher & Paykel microwaves are built-in, including microwave drawers installed under counters or in islands and convection speed ovens that combine microwave and convection heating. Microwave drawers use a motorized drawer mechanism, so in addition to heating faults from the magnetron, diode or capacitor, we often repair drawer motors, gears, sensors and door switches. Speed ovens can lose the convection element or fan. Because the high-voltage circuit stores a dangerous charge, these repairs need a technician. On a visit we safely discharge the system, test heating components, check the drawer mechanism or convection system, and quote before beginning work.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Fisher & Paykel. If this microwave is still under its factory warranty, contact Fisher & Paykel first.

Repairing Fisher & Paykel microwaves in the Las Vegas Valley
Fisher & Paykel microwaves are built into cabinetry, either as microwave drawers under a counter or island, or as speed ovens in a wall stack beside a main oven. Drawer models open and close with a motor and gears, and they have sensors that stop the drawer if something blocks it.
Speed ovens combine microwave and convection heating, adding an element and fan. Both types share the same high-voltage microwave system, which stores a dangerous charge and must be discharged before testing, so internal repairs are not owner work. Our technician discharges the capacitor first, then tests the door switches, high-voltage parts and controls in order.
The drawer mechanism
A microwave drawer uses a motor, gear rack and position sensors to move smoothly. Food debris on the rails, a worn gear or a misaligned sensor can make the drawer stop partway or refuse to open.
We clean and inspect the rails, test the motor and sensors and replace worn gears when needed.
Drawers installed in islands collect more crumbs and spills along the rails than wall units do, simply because of where they sit. That is one reason drawer mechanism repairs are among the most common microwave calls on this brand.
Speed oven convection
Speed ovens can lose convection while microwave still works, because the convection element and fan operate separately from the magnetron. Testing each system separately shows which part has failed.
Combination modes use both, so poor results in combination cooking can point to either system.
Quick checks for a drawer or speed oven
Check the breaker and control lock. On drawers, clear anything that might block the drawer path and clean the rails with the unit off. On speed ovens, try a microwave-only mode and a convection-only mode to describe which fails.
Do not remove covers or force a drawer open or closed.
Fixing it versus starting over
Drawer motors, gears, switches, sensors and convection elements are fair repairs on these built-in units. Replacing them requires matching cutouts and trim, which favors repair.
Magnetron or control failures on older units can tip toward replacement, and we will tell you if that is the case.

Microwave drawers use a motor and gear system to open and close. A failing motor, broken gear, obstruction sensor fault, or a control lock setting can stop the drawer. Check that the control lock is off and nothing is blocking the drawer. If it still will not move, the drawer mechanism needs diagnosis.
Speed ovens combine microwave and convection functions. If microwave mode works but convection does not, the convection element, fan or a thermal cutout is usually the problem. These parts can be replaced. The oven is built-in, so access may require removing it from the cabinet, which we plan carefully.
Usually, yes. Drawers are built into cabinetry, and replacing one means matching the opening and installation. Motors, gears, sensors and door switches are generally repairable. Heating components can also be replaced. We give one price after diagnosis so you can compare against replacing it.
Look for anything in the drawer or the track that could cause resistance, such as a dish edge or debris. The drawer stops to protect itself if it senses an obstruction. If the track is clear and it still stops, the motor, gear or sensor may be failing and should be checked.
Forcing a stuck drawer can strip the gear rack or damage the motor, which turns a modest repair into a larger one. Some models allow limited manual movement, so check the manual first. If the drawer will not move, switch off the breaker, leave the drawer where it stopped and book a repair rather than pulling on the handle.
Many drawer models close automatically when you touch the control or after the drawer is pushed lightly, and that is normal behavior. If it closes without being asked, reopens on its own or stops and reverses, the position sensors or control may be misreading where the drawer is. Those parts can be tested and replaced without removing the whole unit in many cases.
With the unit switched off, wipe the rails and the drawer edges with a damp cloth and mild detergent, removing crumbs and grease that can catch the rollers. Avoid spraying cleaners into the mechanism, since liquid can reach the motor and sensors. Dry everything fully before running the drawer again, and do this regularly in a busy kitchen.
Convection modes heat the cavity much like a small oven, and the front and trim can get warm. A cooling fan protects the cabinet and controls, and it may keep running after cooking ends. If the outside becomes too hot to touch or the fan is silent during convection use, the cooling system should be checked before it damages the electronics.
Give us the model number, whether the problem is heating, drawer movement or controls, any messages shown and when it started. Photos of the installation help too, especially if the drawer is in an island where wiring access may be through a cabinet on the far side. With that, we can bring the parts most likely to be needed.
