How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Admiral dishwashers
Admiral dishwashers are basic built-in models with simple controls and, on many units, a manual filter at the bottom of the tub. Poor cleaning and standing water are the usual complaints, and a clogged filter is the first suspect. Owners often do not realize it needs regular rinsing. Beyond that, we see drain pumps blocked by debris, inlet valves that fail to fill, door gaskets that leak at the corners and latches that stop the cycle from starting. Hard valley water leaves white film on dishes and scale on the spray arms. We check filter, drain path, water supply and latch before quoting.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Admiral. If this dishwasher is still under its factory warranty, contact Admiral first.

- Clogged manual filter leaving food on the dishes
- Standing water in the tub from a blocked drain pump
- Inlet valve failing so the dishwasher will not fill

Repairing Admiral dishwashers in the Las Vegas Valley
Admiral dishwashers are entry-level built-in models made in the Whirlpool family, usually with a plastic tub, a few cycles and a manual filter in the floor of the tub. They are common in rental properties, starter homes and apartment complexes because they are inexpensive to buy and install, and the parts are widely stocked.
That simplicity is good news for repair. There are fewer sensors to fail and fewer places for a fault to hide. The bad news is that a basic dishwasher depends heavily on the owner cleaning the filter and on water that is hot and not loaded with minerals, which valley tap water rarely is.
Why a manual filter changes everything
Older dishwashers chopped food with a hard grinder and sent it down the drain. Many Admiral models instead use a fine mesh filter that traps debris until someone rinses it. Left alone for months, that filter clogs, wash water recirculates dirty, and the spray arms lose pressure.
A lot of so-called broken Admiral dishwashers are fixed by removing the filter assembly, scrubbing it and clearing the sump below it.
Standing water versus a slow drain
A small amount of water left in the sump is normal on many designs. Water above the filter after the cycle ends is not. The usual chain is: clogged filter, then a blocked drain pump inlet, then a drain hose kinked under the sink or a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed after installation.
If the pump hums but does not move water, a piece of glass or a fruit pit may have jammed the impeller.
Cleaning and checks to try first
Turn the dishwasher off at the switch or breaker. Remove the bottom rack, twist out the filter and rinse it under hot water with a soft brush. Check the spray arm holes for seeds or scale. Run the kitchen tap until it is hot before starting a cycle.
Do not pour drain cleaner into a dishwasher. It can damage seals and the pump, and it leaves harsh residue in the tub.
Is a repair worth it on an Admiral?
Drain pumps, inlet valves, door gaskets and latches are modest repairs and usually worth doing. A failed control board or motor on an older Admiral may cost a meaningful share of a new entry-level unit. We price the repair first and tell you if replacement is the smarter route.
For rental owners, a quick and inexpensive repair is often the better business choice than a full replacement and new installation.

Many Admiral models do. Look at the bottom of the tub under the lower rack for a round filter assembly you can twist out. Rinse it under the tap and scrub the mesh with a soft brush. A clogged filter causes poor cleaning, gritty dishes and slow draining. Cleaning it monthly prevents a surprising number of service calls.
A small amount of water around the filter is normal. Standing water above that means the drain is blocked: a clogged filter, debris in the drain pump, a kinked hose or a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed on a new install. Clean the filter first. If water still stays after a cycle, we inspect the pump and hose.
Use rinse aid and a good detergent, and make sure the water entering the dishwasher is hot by running the kitchen tap before starting a cycle. Basic dishwashers rely heavily on rinse aid in hard water. A dishwasher cleaner or a cycle with white vinegar removes buildup from the tub and spray arms. If spray arm holes are blocked, they can be cleared.
Leaks at the door corners usually come from a worn or misaligned door gasket, a dishwasher that is not level, or the wrong detergent producing too much suds. Hand dish soap in a dishwasher causes a dramatic leak. Check the gasket for tears and the unit for level. If the leak comes from underneath, a hose or pump seal may be the source.
Most Admiral filters twist into place and lock with a quarter turn, often with an alignment arrow. If the filter sits loose, food bypasses it and can jam the drain pump or redeposit on dishes. After rinsing it, line up the arrows, turn until it stops, and check that the lower spray arm still spins freely.
Yes. New disposals come with a knockout plug in the dishwasher inlet. If that plug was not removed during installation, the dishwasher has nowhere to drain. Turn the power off to both appliances, then check the disposal inlet. A plumber or technician can remove the plug if you are unsure.
First make sure the water supply valve under the sink is fully open. Scale can partially block the inlet valve screen, and a failed valve or float switch can stop the fill. With the power off, check that the float in the tub moves freely. If it does, the valve should be tested.
Cloudy film is usually mineral deposit from hard water. Use rinse aid, choose a detergent made for hard water and run a dishwasher cleaner monthly. If the cloudiness does not wipe off with vinegar, it may be etching from too much detergent on soft glass, which cannot be reversed.
Stop running the dishwasher and dry the area. If water keeps appearing with the dishwasher off, shut off its supply valve under the sink. Leaks can come from the door gasket, a loose hose clamp, the pump seal or the inlet valve. A slow leak can damage cabinets and flooring, so book a visit soon.
