What to know about Samsung dishwashers

Samsung dishwashers have a leak sensor in the base pan, and when it detects water the machine stops washing and runs the drain pump, usually showing an LC code. Finding where that water came from is the real repair: a door gasket, a sump seal, a cracked spray arm hub or a loose hose clamp. Other common calls involve poor drying, a blocked filter that leaves dishes gritty, and drain faults from a packed filter or air gap. Hard valley water adds scale to the spray arms and heater. A visit includes a leak check with the toe-kick panel off and a run of the test cycle.

TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Samsung. If this dishwasher is still under its factory warranty, contact Samsung first.

Where Samsung dishwashers usually fail

  • Leak sensor tripping and stopping the cycle mid-wash
  • Grit left on dishes from a clogged filter assembly
  • Water left standing in the tub after a drain fault
  • Scale on spray arms reducing upper-rack cleaning
  • Dishes still wet at the end of the cycle

Repairing Samsung dishwashers in the Las Vegas Valley

Samsung dishwashers are 24-inch built-ins, and several lines use spray designs you will not find in other brands. WaterWall models clean the lower rack with a spray bar that travels along the back of the tub, bouncing water off a moving vane. StormWash models use a strong rotating jet in one zone.

Those systems clean well when they move as designed, and they have their own wear points. A cracked vane, a broken drive belt on the WaterWall track or a stuck jet can leave one part of the rack dirty while the rest comes out clean. Knowing which spray system your model uses is the first step in reading the symptom correctly.

Spray systems unique to Samsung models

On WaterWall units the vane rides a track driven by a small motor and belt. If dishes at one end of the lower rack come out dirty, we check whether the vane reaches both ends and whether the track is clogged with food or broken glass.

StormWash and zone-wash models depend on a diverter that sends water to different arms at different times. A diverter that sticks can leave the upper rack clean and the lower one grimy, which owners often mistake for a weak pump.

Filter, track and supply checks

Remove and rinse the cylindrical filter at the bottom of the tub; on some models it twists out from the center. Make sure the vane track is clear and that the lower rack wheels are not blocking the spray bar. Run hot water at the kitchen tap before starting so the first fill is warm.

If you see water under the door, stop running cycles. Turn off the breaker or unplug it and close the supply valve under the sink until the leak source is found.

Hard water and Samsung heaters

Valley tap water leaves a white film on glasses and scale on the heater and sensor parts. Rinse aid helps drying a great deal, and a periodic cleaning cycle with a dishwasher cleaner keeps nozzles open. If a turbidity or temperature sensor is coated, the dishwasher can misjudge how long to wash and heat.

Pulling the unit and deciding on repair

Most Samsung dishwasher repairs happen with the toe kick off and the door open. Pump, heater and base-leak work sometimes means sliding the unit out of the cabinet, which takes care with granite countertops and tile floors. We protect the opening and check the water and drain connections when we reinstall.

Pumps, valves, door latches, gaskets and vane parts are worth fixing on most Samsung dishwashers. A cracked tub or a failed main board on an older unit is usually the point where replacement makes more sense.

Still have questions?

We cover 15 ZIP codes in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise and southern Henderson.

Drying the base pan resets the leak sensor, and sometimes the cause was a one-time event such as dish soap foaming over. If the code returns, water is escaping somewhere, often from a worn door gasket, a cracked sump or a loose hose connection. Running it repeatedly risks floor and cabinet damage, so it is worth having the source located.

Valley tap water leaves mineral scale on the heating element, spray arm nozzles and filter, which slowly reduces wash pressure and drying performance. Use rinse aid, run a dishwasher cleaner or citric acid cycle periodically, and clean the filter monthly. If the upper rack still comes out cloudy or dirty after that, a pump or spray arm problem may need diagnosis.

Many Samsung models rely on residual heat and rinse aid, and some add a door that opens automatically at the end of the cycle, rather than a strong drying element. An empty rinse aid dispenser is the most common cause. Plastic items dry poorly in any dishwasher. If dishes used to dry well and now do not, we check the heater, thermistor and the auto-open parts.

Remove and rinse the filter assembly at the bottom of the tub, and make sure the drain hose under the sink is not kinked. If a garbage disposal was just installed, confirm the knockout plug was removed, and clear the countertop air gap if you have one. If water still sits in the tub, turn off power at the breaker and leave the water for us to see.

The WaterWall vane must travel the full length of the tub. If its belt, motor or track is worn or blocked, it may stall near one side and leave the far end unwashed. Clearing debris from the track sometimes fixes it; a broken belt or motor needs a part.

No. Hand dish soap foams heavily in a dishwasher and can push suds out of the door, which may trip the leak sensor in the base. If it has happened, run a rinse with the door cracked between fills to clear the foam, or call us if the dishwasher will not restart.

Not always. Blinking lights can signal a child lock, a door switch fault or a stored error code. The control lock is often turned off by holding a specific button for a few seconds. If that does not clear it, a door switch or control fault is the likely cause.

Normal and auto cycles on modern Samsung units often run two hours or more, because they use less water and rely on longer soak and heat periods. A long cycle alone is not a fault. A cycle that stalls with the same time showing is worth a service call.

Yes. When a repair needs the dishwasher out of the cabinet, we disconnect and reconnect the supply line, drain hose and power, re-secure the mounting brackets to the counter or cabinet sides, then run a cycle and check every joint for leaks before we leave.
