How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Thermador dishwashers
Thermador dishwashers, including the Sapphire and Emerald lines, are fully built-in, often panel-ready units with a stainless tub, quiet operation and features such as a third rack and interior lighting. They share much of their engineering with Bosch, so drainage, leak protection and the water system follow similar logic. Common repairs are drain errors from a clogged filter or pump, the leak protection float stopping a cycle, scale on the heating system from valley water, and door issues on heavy custom panels. We check the filter and sump, find the actual leak source, and test the pumps and heater.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Thermador. If this dishwasher is still under its factory warranty, contact Thermador first.
Where Thermador dishwashers usually fail
- Water left in the tub after a blocked filter or drain pump
- Leak protection float tripping after water reaches the base
- Heavy custom panel making the door drop open or slam
- Scale buildup on the heater and spray arms from hard water
- Interior lights or display failing on the door

Repairing Thermador dishwashers in the Las Vegas Valley
Thermador dishwashers are premium built-ins sold under names such as Sapphire and Emerald, with stainless tubs, a third rack, quiet operation and, on many models, interior lighting and the StarDry drying system. A large share are panel-ready so they disappear into the cabinetry. Underneath, much of the engineering is common to Bosch, a sister brand, which helps both diagnosis and parts sourcing.
In valley kitchens, the two forces we contend with most are hard water and heavy custom panels. Scale builds on the heater, flow sensor and spray arms. A door panel heavier than the hinge springs were set for makes the door drop or bounce. Both are fixable, but both need to be recognized before parts are ordered.
Getting into a panel-ready Thermador
A panel-ready unit is screwed to the countertop or the side cabinets, and its toe kick hides behind trim that matches the cabinetry. Many repairs, including the drain pump and the base pan float, are reached from below without moving the dishwasher. Heater, circulation pump and some hose repairs need it slid forward, which means disconnecting the water and drain lines and protecting the floor.
We remove the custom panel only when the job requires it, and we mark its position so it goes back exactly where it was.
Door springs and heavy panels
The door hinges use springs or cables sized for a range of panel weights. Stone-look, solid wood or framed panels can exceed that range. The symptom is a door that falls open hard, will not stay at a middle position or snaps shut. Over time the extra load can fray a cable or stretch a spring.
Adjusting or replacing the springs to match the panel is usually a short repair, and it protects the hinges from wearing out early.
What to check, and what to leave alone
Switch the dishwasher off, lift out the filter and rinse it. Spin the spray arms by hand and clear any blocked jets with a toothpick. Fill the rinse aid dispenser and confirm the drain hose under the sink has no kinks or sharp bends.
Leave the toe kick trim, the side mounting screws and the water supply alone unless you are comfortable reinstalling them exactly. Tipping a built-in to empty the base pan risks the floor, the hoses and the panel.
Scale, drying and the heater
Hard water coats the heating element and the flow meter, which can cause longer cycles, poor drying and error stops. Regular descaling and rinse aid help. When scale has already damaged the heater pump or flow sensor, replacement is needed.
StarDry and similar drying systems depend on correct heating and rinse aid. A sudden drop in drying usually points to rinse aid first, then the heater or the drying system itself.
Repair against a new Thermador
Drain pumps, heater pumps, inlet valves, door springs and latches are standard repairs and almost always worthwhile on a Thermador. A new panel-ready unit also needs a matching panel and installation, which tips the math toward repair for many years of the dishwasher's life.

The door springs are matched to the weight of the custom panel. If the panel is heavier than the springs are set for, or a spring or cable has broken, the door drops quickly instead of opening smoothly. The spring tension can be adjusted or the springs replaced. This also protects the hinges.
Turn the dishwasher off, remove the bottom rack and clean the filter assembly. Check under the filter for debris at the pump. Make sure the drain hose under the sink is not kinked or blocked at the disposal. If it still stops, the drain pump or leak protection system needs testing.
Use a quality dishwasher detergent, and never regular dish soap, which causes heavy suds that can trigger the leak protection system. With hard water, keep rinse aid filled and use a descaler occasionally. If your model has a softener, set the hardness level correctly and keep it supplied with salt.
Many repairs, such as a filter cleaning, drain pump or door spring, can be completed in one visit if the part is on hand. Panel-ready models sometimes need to be pulled out of the cabinet for access, which adds time. If a part must be ordered, we explain the timeline and schedule a return visit.
StarDry uses a natural mineral in a compartment that absorbs moisture during drying and gives off heat, which helps plastics and glasses dry. The mineral itself rarely fails. If drying suddenly gets worse, check rinse aid first. A failed fan, valve or heater in the drying system is a less common cause that we can test.
Many models project a light onto the floor or show status on the door edge. If you see no light and hear nothing, check that the door latched and the power is on. If the cycle never progresses, note any code on the display. A dishwasher that stays silent may have a stuck pump or a failed control.
Often yes, if the new model uses the same panel dimensions and mounting pattern. Some panels need trimming or new brackets. We check the panel and the replacement model before recommending replacement, because a panel that no longer fits changes the total cost.
Many internal components are shared or very similar because both brands come from the same manufacturer. Others, such as panels, trim, racks and certain boards, are specific to Thermador. We order using your model and serial number to make sure the part matches, rather than assuming a Bosch equivalent fits.
In valley water, a descaling cleaner every month or two is a sensible routine, along with rinse aid and a hard-water detergent. If your model offers a water softening setting, set it according to the manual. Heavy white crust on the tub or spray arms means descaling should be done more often.
