How a Repair Visit Works
What to know about Smeg ranges
Smeg ranges include the Portofino, Victoria and Opera lines in widths from 24 to 48 inches, many dual fuel with gas burners above and electric multifunction ovens below, sometimes with two ovens. Service often covers both halves: burners with flame-failure thermocouples, spark generators, oven fan elements, selector switches and door hinges that carry the heavy enameled doors. Ranges in this style are usually focal pieces, so we protect the finish during work. We test the cooktop and oven systems separately and give one price that covers the full repair.
TrueFix Las Vegas is an independent repair company, not affiliated with Smeg. If this range is still under its factory warranty, contact Smeg first.
Where Smeg ranges usually fail
- Second oven cavity stops heating on a wide range
- Heavy enameled oven door drops from worn hinges
- Dual-fuel oven element fails while burners still work
- Mechanical clock or timer stops controlling the oven
- Range lists to one side and pans slide on burners

Repairing Smeg ranges in the Las Vegas Valley
A Smeg range is usually the centerpiece of the kitchen: bright enamel or brushed steel, chrome knobs and a wide cooktop over one or two ovens. Most US models are dual fuel, so gas burners sit on top and electric multifunction ovens sit below. Wider models often add a smaller second oven beside the main cavity.
Gas and electric halves have separate energy sources and controls, so trouble in one rarely spreads to the other. Working burners with a cold oven point us toward the oven's elements, selector or electrical supply. A dead cooktop with a working oven points to ignition and gas. Both halves are still checked before we leave.
Diagnosing the electric oven
The oven side needs a correct 240-volt supply. After remodeling or electrical work, we check that supply before anything else. From there, Smeg range ovens follow the same multifunction logic as Smeg wall ovens: a circular element around the rear fan, upper and lower elements, a grill, a selector switch and a thermostat.
A range that heats on some functions but not others usually has one failed element or a worn selector contact, not a failed oven.
Timers that stop the oven
Many Smeg ranges use an electronic or mechanical timer that must be in manual mode before the oven will heat. After a power cut, the timer may need to be reset. Owners sometimes assume the oven has failed when the timer is simply waiting for input. We check the timer settings and test the timer itself if it will not release the oven.
Heavy doors and hinges
Smeg range doors are heavy, especially on enameled retro models with thick glass. Worn hinges let the door drop open or sit slightly ajar, which lets heat escape onto the knobs and controls. Replacing hinges restores the seal and protects the front panel from heat damage. We also check that the door gasket is intact while the hinges are being replaced, since a seal crushed by a sagging door often needs replacing too.
Owner checks and safety
Check the breaker for the oven, set the clock or timer to manual and note which oven and which functions are affected. For burners, clean and reseat crowns and caps.
Do not slide the range out yourself. It is heavy, secured by an anti-tip bracket and connected to gas. If you smell gas with everything off, shut off the gas supply and leave the house before calling.
Repair decisions on a statement range
Elements, selector switches, timers, thermocouples, hinges and igniters are all serviceable, and repair is almost always the better choice than replacing a range that defines the kitchen's look. Some parts come through Smeg's distribution and take longer, and we confirm timing before you approve.

Wider Smeg ranges often have two oven cavities, each with its own elements, selector and thermostat. If one cavity fails while the other works, the fault is in that oven's circuit, such as an element, thermostat or switch. We test that circuit specifically.
Enameled Smeg oven doors are heavy, and the hinges wear over time. A door that drops or won't close firmly usually needs new hinges. Replacing both hinges together keeps the door aligned and the seal effective. It's typically a one-visit repair once parts arrive.
Most freestanding Smeg ranges have adjustable feet. Place a level on the oven rack and the cooktop, then adjust the feet until both read level. A tilted range cooks unevenly and lets oil pool on one side of pans. Make sure the anti-tip bracket still engages afterward.
Many repairs can, especially when parts like thermocouples, igniters or elements are available. Model-specific parts may need ordering. We diagnose on the first visit, confirm the parts and give you the expected timeline and price before you approve the work.
Recipes often assume a conventional oven, while Smeg multifunction ovens behave differently depending on the function chosen. If times have suddenly grown on a function you use regularly, an element, the fan or the thermostat may be failing. We test each and check the door seal for heat loss.
That is usually the cooling fan, which keeps running to protect the controls and front panel until the oven cools. If the fan runs for a very long time or makes a grinding sound, it should be checked. The fan protects the controls and knobs from heat.
Many Smeg ranges can be converted using the correct injector kit and adjustments. It needs to be done by a qualified technician and leak-tested afterward. Most valley homes use natural gas, so conversions are not common here. Ask us before buying a kit, since injector sizes vary by model.
Some warmth is normal on a hot oven, but excessive heat can mean a worn door seal, a door not closing fully, or a cooling fan that is not running. We check those parts to protect the knobs and surrounding cabinets.
Common parts may be available relatively quickly, while others come through Smeg's distribution network and take longer. We confirm availability and timing based on your model code before you approve the repair. We order once the price is approved. The model code is on the rating plate.
